Both in vitro (outside the organism) and in vivo (inside the organism) investigations of the effect of the Fenugreek extract on cancer cells showed that the extracts had cytotoxic effects on certain cancer cells, but did not damage normal cells. "Cytotoxic effect" means that cells are damaged, and may be killed by the substance. The report showed that Fenugreek extract had a cytotoxic effect on T-cell lymphoma, B-cell lymphoma, a special type of thyroid cancer (FRO), and breast cancer (MCF7). It is also very interesting that the report finds that it is an extract of the "whole plant" which is most effective compared to extracts based on isolated components. The researchers conclude that extracts of hedgehog clover can probably be used therapeutically in terms of both preventing and treating several types of cancer, but more research is needed. Such findings are very promising for cancer treatment, as the use of this type of extract will most often be a much more gentle treatment compared to many of the more known types of chemotherapy and other types of treatment.
