The Balmy Beaches of Benidorm: A Guide for Sun Seekers

Travel & Tourism
Benidorm is probably the most famous sunshine destination for English holidaymakers in Spain. Why? From nearby Alicante to Benidorm, this corner of south-east Spain has everything you could possibly want, whether that’s sunbathing or socialising, exploring or shopping. But there is one enduring reason for its fame that trumps all others: it’s those gleaming white sandy beaches. They radiate heat and relaxation, the best and most idyllic retreat for well-earned vacations.

But beaches are not just beaches. Sure they have common features, but Benidorm has three distinctive examples that all offer something a bit different. It all depends on what you want. This is the guide to help you decide which is most suitable.

Levante

The Levante beach is the biggest and most famous. It’s perfect for everyone with its array of amenities, food and drink outlets and over 5000 sunbeds to choose from (which sounds like a lot but you will still need to get there early in the high season!). Swimming and water activities are also supported by an army of well trained, experienced life guards so safety is taken care of.

With multi-coloured meeting points and entertainment, water sports for the more adventurous, Levante is brilliantly designed for families. It is also the closest to the resort centre – making it the best catered beach experience around.

Poniente

The fine crescent of flawless, fine sand is what draws people to Poniente. Plus it is a little quieter than the Levante because it’s a further out from the main batch of hotels, restaurants and nightclubs. There are still plenty of facilities though, with numerous bars, sunbeds and safe swimming areas.

The Poniente is bordered by a beautiful flowing promenade that stretches to the far ends of the beach. It’s brand new, designed to protect tourists from the sounds of traffic on the busy Avenue Armada España behind. Everything has been taken care of to ensure a carefree experience for its users.

Malpas

Malpas beach is the wildcard. Off the beaten track, it sits close to the harbour. Although much smaller than Levante or Poniente and boasting fewer luxuries, Malpas is all the quieter for it. It’s ideal for those looking to escape the noise and fury of elsewhere, and settle down with a good book.

How to Get There

Travelling to Benidorm has never been easier. Airports all over the UK fly regularly and directly to Alicante, the nearest international airport. And the trip from Alicante to Benidorm is only a 45 minute drive. Private taxi services offer the best way of making that journey: book a transfer with them and their excellent transport service will take you straight from Alicante to Benidorm, with minimum hassle and straight to wherever you need to be. It’s the classiest way to start the picture-perfect holiday.
