Autumn Holidays in Tenerife: Resorts, Reclusion and Relaxation

Travel & Tourism,Advice
The stretches of golden beaches, turquoise waves and never-ending sunshine make the Canary Islands a popular choice when it comes to planning a summer holiday. It’s no wonder that we suffer from post-holiday blues when we return to the drizzly UK. Nowadays, more and more people are choosing to combat their winter woes by escaping to warmer climates for an autumnal getaway – and Tenerife is top of the list.

Why Travel in Autumn?

Around September, you’ll begin to notice just how short the days are becoming and before you know it, it’s dark at 4pm and the birds are still in bed even after you’ve had your morning coffee. This is the time when Tenerife resorts are at their best.

As the temperature drops to a comfortable average of 21 degrees Celsius, the holiday island becomes a calm oasis full of natural treasures just waiting to be explored. The crowds have all gone back to school, leaving the perfect beaches empty and the accommodation affordable.

Make the Most of the Changing Seasons

Without a doubt, the best way to take advantage of the balmy climate of this Spanish island is to spend as much time as possible outdoors. It’s the perfect destination for nature lovers (it has a couple of national parks, one of which was rewarded with UNESCO World Heritage Site status) as well as for foodies who are keen to taste the best treats of the harvest season. Here’s how to make the most of Tenerife’s cooler temperatures:

• Treat your taste buds to the sensational flavours of local organic produce, like earthy mushrooms and fresh chestnuts, which become abundant this time of year in Tenerife. Resorts and restaurants will showcase these fresh ingredients in scrumptious dishes, so be sure to look out for them on the menu! • During the late months of the year, sunsets are even more special. The warm light fades at the end of the day, bathing the entire island in a soft golden hue. Enjoy them with a bottle of wine in hand – the weather and geology give the grapes unique qualities that make for deliciously sophisticated vinos.

Private Paradise

Although autumn is certainly quieter in Tenerife, resorts never completely shut down so there’s no trouble finding a great place to stay. It’s the perfect time to find some bargains (and you won’t have to suffer because of noisy neighbours or crowded tourist attractions).

Look for somewhere not too far from Teide National Park, which you’ll want to put at the top of your list of places to visit. Costa Adeje, Garachico and Puerto de Cruz have some excellent accommodation options to choose from.

For those that have more time and would like to see all the green magnificence that is Tenerife, resorts in Santa Cruz will mean you’ll be in close proximity to the lesser known known but equally breathtaking Anaga Rural Park.

Join the swallows this autumn and fly to warmer climates. Tenerife and all its hidden gems are waiting to be discovered.
