So, you have completed your newest fairy garden design. The miniature plants are in the ground, the garden accessories are positioned just so, and the flowers are beginning to bloom. What is the next step? It is sharing your garden! Miniature gardens tell some of the most unique and exciting tales. What better way to reveal your garden’s stories than to take photographs of your creations. If you are new to photography or nervous about taking pictures, do not worry. You need not own an expensive camera to ensure quality photos of your miniature garden. They can, in fact, be had with the simple tap of a smartphone. That is right. Today, many at-home gardeners are content to take pictures with their phones or tablets for easy sharing and quick editing. You can also use a simple point-and-shoot digital camera. There is no need for a bulky, pricey brand if you are taking casual photos. Do you want to get stunning photos of your garden? Get ready for a garden close-up! The zoom feature on a phone or tablet is usually relatively simple—you “pinch out” with your fingers, directly on the screen, as if you are spreading the image. You can practice indoors until the feeling comes naturally. After zooming, do a double-tap to focus on the flower or fairy that you would like to photograph. Close-ups of brightly colored blooms are some of the most enjoyable snapshots to see. Catching a portion of a fairy’s serene face creates a charming image for your scrapbook or social media post. In addition to your full screen view of the fairy garden, consider using a few close-ups that capture the mood and essence of miniature gardening. An expanse of grass, a stretch of beach sand, or the clear blue sky is okay, but you do not want a clutter of miniature accessories or fairy houses getting in the way of your focus point. If you catch the sun late in the day, just as it is getting close to the horizon, your flowers will have a particularly warm glow. One of the trickiest things that amateur garden photographers deal with is the "Big W." A windy day makes for blurry pictures and miniature plants that appear to be falling over. You can solve that issue by putting your phone on a stabilizing tripod, using a “selfie stick” for stability, or just holding up a piece of cardboard to create a wind block. If possible, you could also bring your container fairy garden indoors to make use of soft window lighting and a lack of wind. Place your fairy garden near a window, turn off the flash, and start clicking pictures.
