When I set out to find the best breweries near me, I knew that I had to have a plan of action. Simply deciding to find a great brewery and actually making it happen are two very different things, so I knew I had to take a little time to make sure I knew where to start. More importantly, I also knew I had to have some sort of endgame. It would make no sense to start off on a journey of discovery but not define what exactly I was trying to find. |
I’d be lying to you if I didn’t admit that it all sounds a bit more complicated than you’d expect. Complexity aside, I knew that if I didn’t take this seriously, I’d very well end up with nothing to show for my efforts. Breweries are actually becoming more common nowadays, and given the market share that craft beer takes up against the old guard of beer makers, it’s no real shock that a few folks would try their luck. This made me feel a little better in my endeavor to find the best breweries in my area.
As it turns out, not only did I find the best breweries near me, I actually found a favorite out of all of them, which surprised the heck out of me! If you’re hoping to catch your own ‘white whale’ brewery, here are the steps I took to finding glory:
Online Work — Let the internet work for you. Any business trying to succeed in this day and age has to have a strong presence on the internet, and breweries are no different. Social media, official sites, and online reviews are all great resources when trying to narrow down your choices. It’s also important to remember you can tap into (ha!) specialized websites & online forums dedicated to visitors sharing information about the beers they’ve tried and the breweries they’ve frequented.
Inquiries at Specialty Stores — There are actually massive superstores dedicated to beer, wine, and spirits. Perhaps the best part about these stores, aside from the massive selection, is the experts that work there. They are invaluable resources you should use in your search for breweries worth checking out.
Chance Visits to Some Breweries (if possible) — The most important thing I learned was that not all breweries allow visitors. While some have developed their business model around tours & visitors, others have chosen not to do so. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it does make you have to think a little harder about how you assess the breweries you’ve chosen.
Here’s hoping that when you start wondering, ‘I wonder where the best breweries near me are’, you find what you’re looking for. Not only did I find the best, but my best actually turned out to be a dine-in theater (others call them movie grills). Not only is the beer that’s made on-site stellar, but I can actually order a drink and amazing food (and get service) while watching a movie. Let’s hope your own search pays off just as well.
