If you’re looking to buy a new rug or carpet you would be forgiven for thinking there is no such thing as fashion. Both are such a long-term purchase. When you think about it, a rug could quite easily last significantly longer than the purchase of a car or even a house. Some Persian rugs in Australia have been here as long as non-indigenous people have. You will be surprised to find there are trends in floor covering just like there are with paint colours and furniture. You can buy shaggy rugs online but if you’re trying to work out whether you should, you have to do some research to find what is in. There’s a different approach though. Rugs are really a choice where you should buy what you want. Who but you is right to say what looks good in your house? This is something you’re going to live with for a long time so being swayed by other people who know nothing of your tastes is crazy. In the past, there was only one way of looking at carpets or Persian rugs in Australia; you had to walk into the store and be met with a pile of rugs that was probably more than a foot high. You got to flip rug after rug over until the pile got too heavy to move and then you’d move on to the next one. You never got to see the whole rug and, you certainly never got to see it without other rugs offsetting the visual. It was a poor way to make a big purchase. Especially when rugs were sorted by quality and type and rather than by aesthetic. You want a $400 carpet? Look in this pile. Now, there’s a much better way of buying rugs – it’s one of the ways in which the internet has revolutionised our lives. There is only one slight downside and that is the quality of the device you use to search. If you’re looking at a really old monitor you can expect the colours to be a little off. Otherwise buying carpets and shaggy rugs online is a great idea. For a start, you get to see the whole thing – admittedly in miniature, but then it’s better than seeing a corner because as you may know, the corner of a rug can be very different from its border. You can also compare and contrast the one you like with similar ones, but with slightly different patterns or colours. The trend for buying things from the comfort of your couch is not going to go away. You might still want to shop for clothes by going to the store, but for things like rugs, the online experience is superior to the real one. Just remember the colours might change ever so slightly. Good luck then with your purchase. Trust your own taste and if you want a bright orange shaggy run don’t listen to a soul who tells you otherwise.
