Holidays in Bermuda are not only about dream-like beaches and idyllic weather; the food on this island also has a fabulous reputation. Sandys Parish in the Western district is famous for its varied menus and wonderful range of culturally-influenced dishes. As it’s an island, Bermuda is in the fortunate position of having been influenced by different countries and the food certainly reflects that. The cuisine showcases the best of English and Portuguese flavours and fuses it with local seafood specialities. Washed down with a glass or two of the local rum, you can’t go wrong on an evening out. The best part about the gastronomy in Sandys Parish is that there is great food to suit every budget. Here are some recommended eateries to look out for when on any of your future holidays in Bermuda. Frog & Onion Pub and Restaurant Aptly named the Frog & Onion (it was opened by a Frenchman and a Bermudian), this vibrant pub is almost 100 years old. The pub is a short ferry ride from Hamilton and can be found inside the dockyard complex. It boasts a lovely outdoor eating area, a games room and gift shop, as well as a bar that is recognised as one of the longest on the Island. It serves a range of delicious dishes that are a little pricier than other places but still very reasonable considering the quality of the food. Indulge in reminders of home, such as fish and chips or sausage and mash, or go for something more local, such as a chowder (a favourite among diners). Woody’s Sports Bar For a truly authentic eatery head to Woody’s Sports Bar, a charming local spot well known for its fabulous seafood specialities. From its fish sandwiches and grilled shrimp to its seafood salads and lovely chicken dishes, there is something to suit even the most discerning diner at this off-the-beaten-track restaurant. The drinks menu is also extensive and the bar serves whiskeys, cocktails, beers and wines. Choose to dine in or out – or why not kick back on the picnic benches on the grass? Prices here reflect the laidback atmosphere and are surprisingly low. This spot is ideal for anyone travelling with a budget in mind. Breezes Restaurant A wonderful restaurant (and perfect if you want to treat yourself) is Breezes, a part of the Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa. The prices may be a little more expensive than other restaurants but the area, but the ambiance and quality of the dishes justifies every penny. Gorgeous local fish platters, chicken dishes, soups and salads complement a wonderful drinks menu that includes cocktails, aged rums and milkshakes. The views from the ‘al fresco’ tables, whether they are on the veranda or on the sand, are stunning and make this restaurant a real hit. Where to Stay One of the best adults-only resorts in Bermuda is the Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa. The facilities are extensive and include the Ocean Spa, tennis courts, yoga classes and a putting green. Not only does it have its own bars and restaurants, it also has direct access to the beach. This is a beautiful spot to be based.
