Keywords are a vital part of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). These are the words and phrases that people use to find the most relevant content to them in the sea of search engine results they are presented with. SEO is a complicated business and it might be advisable to consult with expert agencies offering SEO packages to get your site off the ground.

The ideal key phrase has a high search volume, low competition and expresses succinctly what your website has to offer. So, are low volume keywords pretty useless? Not necessarily. Targeting lower hanging fruit can yield several significant benefits:

So, how do you know which low volume phrases are right for you?

• The best low volume keywords are those that show a user’s intent to buy, register or join – engaging with your site in the desired way. This is because these are the keywords that convert users into customers and offset your SEO expense.

• It is worth identifying those keywords that you believe you can rank highly for, with fairly low effort. Using these minimises risk, since even one or two conversions on the back of that keyword make your work worthwhile.

• It is crucial that key phrases are relevant to your site’s service, product or mission statement. The best search marketing experts make it a priority that their SEO packages incorporate the most relevant and appropriate phrases.

There are a number of digital agencies that can bring their expertise to your SEO. Packages offered can be of great help in determining which keywords are right for your site that can help bring in new leads and more business at the lowest cost per acquisition.

If you feel you have exhausted relevant the smaller “low hanging fruit” keywords, but still have the budget and desire to intensify your SEO, you may feel that it is worth tackling some higher volume phrases that are more competitive. Although this entails much higher costs per conversion on your site, the traffic you generate could lead to further profits.

But don’t forget about the little guys. Those smaller fish could be the key to stimulating your sales and increasing your profits.
