Finding your landing points There is a lot of upheaval in the markets and it may be that other landing points will need to be found sooner rather than later. Using the metaphor of flying planes, there is the precision landing, the neat and tidy landing and the patchy landing. The neat and tidy landing might be the typical no problem landing at an airport runway, when everything goes smoothly. Picture maybe landing for vacation in someplace idyllic like Hawaii and then everything goes smoothly from there. A good example of a precision landing would be the jets that land or try to land on an aircraft carrier. The operation is quite difficult and requires excellent training and a precise landing. The patchy landing might be landing somewhere else in a storm, or a plane exploring for example remote Africa and needing to land in some grassy field that can be spotted. Even with modern day technology, this type of landing is sometimes needed in more adventurous terrain. In personal terms the patchy landing could be at a place where I am younger, older, less experienced, to experienced or at any points where I am not at the neat and tidy or at the precision points that I expected. In the high tech era, where apparently license plate numbers can be identified from outer space, precision type landings are all the more possible and technologically enabled. With the internet, and advanced computer technology, mathematical models can be run with great precision. So there are expectations for precise landings, precise outcomes and precise results. Then in the modern day work era, people have had expectations that they could chart a career course and find a scenario that they could ride out to the very last sunset. This would represent a neat and tidy landing. A degree could be obtained, maybe a high status one and that would be a win for all concerned for all the years yonder from that point. And then the same could apply to any area of life, say for example relationships, finding that someone special and that would all lead on from there. These of course are desirable outcomes in varying degrees. It might leave out some adventure but it also might gain adventure. But then unfortunately some people begin to face patchy landings. In movies this is pictured often in adventurous terms, but most would rather have a sure bet and a little less adventure and more certainty. But if and when the patchy landing becomes a reality in terms of what is needed to happen, then that music needs to be faced. It may be that the precision landing, or hoped for expertise isn’t there, it may be that the neat and tidy landing has been lost In the now foggy horizon of what was once possible. You are on the high plains of Africa, in search of the latest herd and now you can only make a patchy landing. In relationships, it might be that someone had their dream person there and then something went wrong, from here only it seems the vague patchy landing can happen. In work, a career is stalled, or even lost and now some patchy landing somewhere else needs to happen. The key in all this is not to turn on one self, because precision is lost, because expertise is lost, or because the neat and tidy and what was hoped for within that is lost. And one of the tools of turning against oneself is denial. Denial that this can be happening to me, that this neat and tidy landing, or precise outcome I had all planned out has disappeared from the landscape of reality and faded into lost hopes. The key is then to get a hold of oneself, realize that it would have been or was great to have it the other ways, those great landings that are no longer possible and then don’t deny yourself the patchy landing for want of a better landing that just can’t be had anymore. Find that patchy landing, where there is still some rays of hope and possibility, even if it is dimished from what had been there previously.
