Hydrogen as an Alternative Fuel Due to the rising tide of gas prices and the desire to see our country free from the bonds of foreign oil I went out in search of the perfect alternative fuel. Having no personal gain connected to my search at the time I was allowed the opportunity to freely examine the pros and cons of all options on the table. It is my belief that knowledge is power so I did my homework. Though I believe that our country needs to examine all options to get ourselves free from our dependence on foreign oil, after spending months doing research I found one option especially intriguing, water! The beauty of this choice is not only can water be easily found, including salt water, but is also in organic matter. Water is converted to Hydrogen or HHO by using fuel cell powered generators. Since water is essentially two parts Hydrogen to one part Oxygen it is beautifully simple in its composition. Once converted to Hydrogen gas it is 14 times lighter than air. This is significant because if your car ran on hydrogen and was involved in an accident the fall out, so to speak, would demonstrate a significantly lower probability of being flammable thus minimizing automobile fires. The HHO fuel would quickly dissipate into the air. What is even better is it is colorless, odorless, tasteless and non-toxic. HHO, when burned through a supplemental hydrogen generator, gives off a considerable amount of heat or energy which works to clean out the unburned hydrocarbons that reside in your engine. This process allows you to gain power from a higher percentage of the gas you do use only adding to mileage capacity. Your vehicle will run cleaner and more efficiently. The exhaust that results from hydrogen is water. It is the only fuel that gives back what it takes! That’s right it does not pollute the air nor contribute to global warming. Hydrogen is a win for our environment and a win for our energy problem right now! The technology is already here. Supplemental hydrogen generators can be installed in our vehicles at far less cost than the purchase of a hybrid. This thus generates no waste. There are books available that will walk you through the process of building your own hydrogen generator. Most are very user friendly complete with illustrations and directions to help anyone with a basic mechanical understanding accomplish the task. I found a supplemental hydrogen generator that would allow me to combine gas and water for between $197 & $800 dollars, depending on the cubic inches of the motor in which it is to be installed. Whether you install it or have it installed you can be driving on half gas and half hydrogen within a few weeks. Though you are not completely off gas it is a step in the right direction. Why should we toss out a perfectly good vehicle for a lot less than we paid for it so that we can make monthly payments of $350-to $600 for 5 years or better? I estimate that it will take the major automakers at least two years to get hybrids perfected and on the market for the average Joe. You could be saving 45% to 50% on your fuel today. That is quite a bit of money back into your pocket monthly. Though biodiesel is viable for little money out of pocket and ethanol conversion is certainly viable both require fuel that may be a little harder to come by. In consideration of our dependence on foreign oil in today’s volatile world surely we should not take any option off the table. Natural Gas is feasible however it requires that access to it be built into our local fueling stations. This could take a while and at whose expense. Surely if the entire world switched to water we would be in trouble for water is a precious natural resource that we can not afford to deplete. It is for this reason that we must pursue all the options. No one source is the only answer yet water could be part of the equation and seemingly is the cheapest most available choice.
