RECESSION ... DOWN ECONOMY ... WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Recently, I've run into lots of small business owners for their end-of-the-year Business Growth reviews. I asked each one of them what is it that they would like to find an answer to RIGHT NOW since the official announcement of the Recession.

And the question that came up most frequently sounded somewhat like this:

"I know we're in a recession. I know the economy is down and business is bad. Ok. Now what do I do with my business? Do I quit? Do I give it up? How can I survive during this recession?"

The answers to these questions lie in your ability to strategically focus your thoughts and your actions.

First, you've got to get your head thinking right.

Forget about doom and gloom. Put that kind of thinking aside. Let everybody else keep talking about that. Not you. Your focus needs to be set on your desire to make it through. Think about surviving, but also think about growing.

You see so many other businesses right now are thinking instead about shrinking back. Your competitors are.

But you shouldn't. Don't even talk about how your business may be going down the drain due to the Recession.

Instead, change your thinking. Sit down and specifically list all the benefits that you are still providing to your customers and clients.

Second, answer these next 3 questions:

"What is it that your current customers and clients want from you?"

"What do your customers and clients still need despite the Recession?"

"How does what you provide help your customers and clients meet the challenges they are facing right now as they too go through this Recession?"

How can you still provide what it is they want from you in a faster, more creative, and more economical fashion?

This may take some critical thinking on your part, but the answers will come to you as you hone in and focus on what it is specifically that your customers and clients need.

That is the key..., focus on what your customers and clients need. Not on what you're not receiving because of the down economy.

Then sit down again and determine how your products and services can specifically feel those needs.

Finally, get the word out to your customers and clients about how specifically your products and services meet their needs, especially in this Recession ... and despite the down economy.

But keep this in mind. The down economy may likely have changed what it is that your customers need at this time. So be aware of this. If you can't figure out for yourself what your customers and clients need, pick up the phone and make a call to them and ask them directly. They'll tell you what it is they are going through, what it is they want, and what it is they need now. All you have to do is ask them. Then, be attentive and listen to what they are saying about their needs.

So even in this down economy, you can build your business.

You've just got to be more focused on what it is your customers and clients need from your business now. Then be creative and flexible in figuring out ways your business can specifically fulfill those needs.

Now we have a plan to attack this Recession and down economy.

Stop watching all those TV reports of the down economy. Turn off those radio stations spewing out that message of doom and gloom and recession.

Instead, sit down and take a moment to write out all the needs your customers and clients are having right now. Next, write out ways your products and services can specifically fulfill their needs. Be creative. You may even have to be innovative.

Then get busy telling your customers and clients how you can specifically meet their needs.

Because if you do, soon you'll start getting pretty busy again doing what it is you do best...selling your products and services to those customers and clients who really need them. And when you do, you'll not only make it in this down economy, your business will continue to grow and prosper too.
