Which Antibiotics Are Mostly Prescribed For Treating STIs?

Health,Fitness
The experts in the field of treating sexually transmitted infections are of the opinion that taking adequate protection can stop these infections from spreading abundantly. The highly contagious nature of these infections helps them to spread through skin to skin contact. Possibility of skin contact is highest among sexually active people or those who have the habit of changing partners frequently. Compared to earlier times, people are more cautious about using protection before sexual intimation. However, it cannot be ensured all the time and if your partner is already a carrier of STI, there is a 60% probability that you will also be infected. In these situations you are left with no other option than to start the right treatment.

Why is treating STIs difficult?

One of the most important reasons that an infected person doesn’t realize about his infection is that at the initial stage these diseases don’t show any symptoms. Generally, within a duration of two weeks to one month, symptoms of the infection appear on the skin in or around your genitals, hands or inner glands. These symptoms may appear harmless to you and consequently you may delay to start your treatment; but remember that you are looking only at the tip of an iceberg. These apparently harmless signs of the sexually transmitted infections suggest that your physical system is already under grave danger. So you must seek immediate medical attention so that you can be safe from further physical complications.

What are the antibiotics?

The antibiotics are referred to as a group of medications that are used for curing the diseases caused by bacterial infections. In the recent scenario of treatment, antibiotics are perhaps the most prescribed forms of medication. Today, more than 100 types of antibiotics are available in the market and they are used to cure simple physical problems to the most serious forms of infections. Considering the nature of sexually transmitted infections, they can be classified into four major categories, such as, bacterial, viral, fungal and protozoan.

The most common forms of sexually transmitted infections are: Gonorrhoea, Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), Chlamydia, Trichomonas Vaginalis, Mycoplasma Genitalium and Ureaplasma Urealyticum. It is not hard to understand why antibiotics are so popular and widely used in treating STIs. There are various types of antibiotics available for curing sexually transmitted infections. However, it is always best to consult your doctor when it comes to determining the best medication for you. The most commonly used antibiotics for treating sexually transmitted infections are Aciclovir, Azithromycin, and Doxycycline.

Which are the most prescribed antibiotics for STI treatment?

The main reason that some of the antibiotics are the most widely used for treating sexually transmitted infections is their capacity to cure the situation effectively and also to control further outbreak of the infection. There are some infections that cannot be cured entirely. It means that if you are infected once, outbreak of the diseases would occur sooner or later. These widely used antibiotics control such future outbreaks and keep your physical system safe from serious complications.

Aciclovir: This medication is definitely one of the most prescribed medications to treat one of the most contagious sexually transmitted infections, genital herpes. It is used only for oral use and the antibacterial properties of this drug would stop the bacteria of this disease from replicating. It means that soon the infection would be powerless and your immunity system would remove it from your body.

Azithromycin: This antibiotic is a generic macrolide for oral use only. In order to treat some of the most dangerous STIs, such as gonorrhoea, chlamydia, non-specific urethritis, mycoplasma genitalium and ureaplasma urealyticum, this medication is used. The effective properties of this medication are capable to solve the problem within 3 to 5 days, depending on the strength of dosage.

Doxycycline: This drug is perhaps one of the most recognized names when it comes to treating STIs. It is used only for oral usage and infections like non-specific urethritis, chlamydia, ureaplasma urealyticum and gonorrhea, which can be cured with proper usage of this medication.
