What to do at Bookaroo

Bookaroo Trust based in New Delhi, India, it's committed to bringing good literature to children. Promoting book related events, Bookaroo works with renowned writers, illustrators, storytellers, theatre people, publishers, editors and school. There are plenty of activities for the children of almost every age. Different activities are organised for entertaining as well as educating the kids of all ages. With different interesting activities helps kids to create interest in literature.

4 to 6 years old There is The Kahani Tree which includes a wonderful line up of authors and storytellers starting from 12.15 pm onwards and at The Kahani Tree itself don’t forget to attend Incredible India by Vijyalakshmi Nagraj at 2 pm. Explore about the most wonderful wonders of our own country by joining in the magical carpet ride. If you are at Bookaroo bit early then the little one can enjoy the screening of their favourite folktales at 11am. At 2.45 kids can join at Ajanta Guhathakurta in an alphabet extravaganza – ABCEDARIA at the Doodle Wall. You can finish it up with the fun for the little ones with Doodle Dash by Flavour of Art Foundation at 4 pm at the Doodle Wall.

6 to 8 years old You can start your day at the Bookaroo with the Crafty Corner at 11 am with ‘Take a Seat’ by Louise-Marie Cumont for an exciting craft session. Louise-Marie Cumont also conduct another session at 2.45 pm “Turning Cartwheels” at the mycity4kids Crafty Corner. Follow the tricks of quite unusual men in trip of a lifetime down the Thames, and then your little ones will get to decide who they will take along on their boat by joining in, The Glade at 12.15 pm, for ‘Everyone in a Boat’ by Campfire. Then children can move on to The Kahani Tree for ‘Tales of Wonder’ by Vijaylakshmi Nagaraj. Join at the, The Glade is also the venue at 2.45 pm for ‘Laughter Ahoy’ by Shamim Padamsee – a silly story of Bondapalli and Wind Magic from Funny. Don’t forget to stay here till 4 pm for Monsters, Songsters and much such Madness by Anushka Ravishankar under the Kahani Tree.

8 to 10 years old Learn to convert junk into treasure in special recycling workshop while starting your day with the Pavilion for ‘Kabaad se Jugaad’ by TERI at 11 am. Put your next step towards the Mycity4kids Crafty Corner for ‘Make a Picture-Storybook’ with Jitendra Thakur at 12.15 pm, where kids from the age of 8 to 10 can write your own story, draw illustrations and make their own picture storybook. Then move towards the Amphitheatre by 1.30 pm to join Singapore based author Grant S Clark for ‘Make Monkey Magic’. At 2 pm settle under The Kahani Tree at 2 pm for ‘The Cunning Queen’ by Manas R Mahapatra meet the colourful characters in two wonderful jungle stories. Paint your imagination by stepping towards the Doodle Wall at 2.45 pm for ‘Magic Doodling’ by Frane Lessac. You can join Gallery to see Bookart, an exhibition of artwork by India’s best children’s book illustrators.

10 to 12 years old Start your day with more fun at am at the Doodle Wall with ‘The Urban Zoo’ by Nadia Budde at 11am. Come and join Kirsty Murray and travel down time warps to discover magical places, meet strange characters and have enthralling adventures at Amphitheatre at 12.15 pm for ‘Once Upon a time: How to become a time traveller’ by Kirsty Murray. Those who are interested in art can join at ‘Up close with Vandana Bist’ at 12.15 at The Gallery and experience live art. Wonderful time can be spend at The Glade is a great place with Charles Dickens and his cast of wonderful characters in ‘Oliver Twist and other great Dickens stories’ by Marcia Williams at 1.30 pm. But don’t miss the Haikuwalkathon by Kala Ramesh at The Courtyard at 4 pm. In between the whole you can drop by the Gallery to see Bookart for India’s best children’s book illustrators.

12 to 14 years old Join a chat with Ruskin Bond at 11am at the Amphitheatre for ‘Ruskin in the Hot Seat’. Join at the Studio – ‘Become the next Steve Jobs’ by Campfire at 12.45 and design your own i-gadget. Don’t miss the 1.30 pm session ‘White Crows, Wild Words’ by Jerry Pinto & Garima Gupta at the Workshop. In ‘Picture Weaving’ by Vandana Bist at 2.45 pm at the Gallery learn to change pictures into stories and stories into pictures. In between the whole you can drop by the Gallery to see Bookart for India’s best children’s book illustrators.
