We feel the weight of an object because the earth pulls the object towards itself. By holding an object we can say whether it is light or heavy . If the object is heavy the pull will be much more than that for a lighter object and our experience helps us in classifying it as light or heavy. However, we need a better estimation of weight for our business dealings and other activities. Different types of weighing scales have been devised for this purpose. Scales used in shops differ from the scales used in the laboratories, houses, and other places. Various types of scales are used in factories and warehouses, and floor scales are one of the types of scales used at these places. The objects to be weighed are placed on the pan or platform of a scale. These objects have to be raised to the level of the pan or a platform in a normal scale. The items used in factories are sometimes very heavy and it is not easy to raise them to the level of the platform. It may not also be safe to raise such heavy objects. Therefore, the platforms of the floor scales are kept at floor level or a few inches above it. The platform has to be kept a few inches above the floor level in some scales because some space is required for the weighing machinery below the platform, and the design of the scale does not permit the platform to be kept at the floor level. However raising the item a few inches does not pose a serious problem. There are digital scales which readily show the weight. There are additional features available in the floor scales which enhance their utility. For example it is possible to read the weight at a remote place which is more convenient for you and you can also get print out of the weight. There are NTEP floor scales which are certified for their accuracy by an independent authority. You can go online and find details about these scales. You will find that many options are available for selection.
