Maintaining and inspecting a car on regular basis is really important to extend the life of the car and improve its performance level. Hence, make sure that you perform the regular car maintenance schedule in order to improve your car, in terms of its performance and longevity. However, you may wonder that how you can maintain and inspect a car on your own, without having formal training in this line of job. Do not worry! Given below are some of the important tips that will help you maintaining a car by yourself, despite having training in this industry. Check the engine: While engine is the soul of the car, special attention should be given to it. The first step of maintaining the engine should be checking the engine oil. Keep a constant eye on the engine oil level since driving a car with low level of engine oil can cause damage to your vehicle. Park the car, turn off the engine, and let the engine cool down. Then pull out the dipstick and check the oil level, following the manufacturer’s guide. If you see that the oil is black in color, then be sure that there are some problems with the engine. On the other hand, if you see that the oil is dark, brown in color then understand that the engine is working fine. Refill the oil if you find that the oil level is low. Also, check the coolant level in the engine, following the manufacturer’s manual. Make sure that the coolant level is between “Low” and “Full” marks. However, if the coolant level is low, refill it immediately by using recommended type of coolant mixed with water. Inspect the tires: Pay attention to the tires conditions when inspecting and maintaining a car. Make sure that the tires are properly inflated. Driving on under-inflated tires can affect the overall performance level and mileage of the car. Also, check out the tires to find out if there is any leak or damage in the tires. If so, get the tires repaired or get them replaced immediately. Check the pressure of the tires at least once a month or before going to the long trips. To get an accurate measurement of the tire pressure, make sure that you check them when they are cool to touch. If you have accidentally overfilled the tires above the tire pressure, then release the extra air by pushing on the metal stem in the center of the valve with a tire gauge tool. Maintain the bodywork: Make sure that you wash your car with good cleaning agent, both for the interior and exterior of the vehicle. There are plenty of quality waxes and polishes that are easy to apply and good to protect the vehicle from fading. However, if you do not have adequate time to perform the car servicing schedule on your own, hire the services of a professional vehicle mechanic, who would do these all on your behalf.
