Chill Out at the Full Moon Cafe: The Full Moon Cafe attracts people who are into the culture scene, and are looking to kick back and relax to live music at a coffee house. It's a social scene, and the type of place that you can go to alone and leave having met someone new. It began in 2005 by three women who had a vision to create a coffee house where people can sip on a mug of chai, and listen to the talented musicians of Fort McMurray. The evening begins with a drumming circle, this is a great way to see and bond with all of the other attendees. After the drumming circle, a feature artist takes the stage and wows the crowd with an electric show. Afterwards, there is an open mic session where violinists, poets, jazz artists, blues singers, and much more, steal the show for the rest of the night. Check out online for the next Full Moon Cafe, as it only happens once a month. Don't miss out! Volunteer at Keyano Theatre: If you're into theatre, Keyano College is the place to be. The theatre has been a part of the Fort Mac community for over thirty years, and is often referred to as the jewel of performing arts in the Wood Buffalo region. The theatre is always looking for volunteers. Volunteering has, and always will be a fantastic way to meet like-minded people. It is something that you can easily do on your own, and you will probably meet others who are going solo also, which makes it less intimidating to approach them. There are several volunteer positions that you can choose from that will best suit your personality. You can volunteer with the front of house team, which includes ushers, coat check attendants, merchandise sales clerks, etc. You can be a technical volunteer, which includes: set painters, hair and makeup assistants, wardrobe assistants, dressers, backstage running crew, and much more. There is also a third option, which is to volunteer as a performer! All of the actors that perform at the Keyano theatre are volunteers of the Keyano Theatre Company, they are always looking for volunteers to join their team. Join a Sports Club: Joining clubs is an excellent way to meet people with similar interests. There are many sport clubs available in Fort Mac for you to join. You can start by going to MacDonald Island, and asking staff for their group sports schedule. You can also check out the YMCA of Wood Buffalo.
