When you choose to buy a floor scale you opt for a more efficient means of weighing very heavy objects. But we know well that increasing the efficiency is worth while only if the quality of the output of the process and the reliability of the process are not compromised. And for that to happen the manufacturer of the floor scale must have enhanced capabilities when compared to an ordinary digital scale manufacturer. The special needs of a floor scale result in a requirement of some very innovative components which require high quality manufacturing capability. So why does a floor scale require special components? After all it is another digital scale that works pretty much like other digital scales do except that it has a very low profile. And it is just this low profile that possess a challenge and to meet the challenge on needs to use a specialized component. In a spring balance it is possible for the mechanism that measures the weight to be above the weight being measured. But a spring balance is a mechanical device with limited accuracy. And also it is not suitable for very heavy weights. It could be used it would be great because the object to be weighed would have to be lifted only minimally. But it is not possible to use a spring balance for heavy weights. Though for some very heavy weights crane scales are available where again the weighing mechanism is above the object being weighed. But again they are difficult to use for general purpose weighing for which a low platform scale is ideal. Now if the weight measurement device has to be beneath the platform and the platform has to be very low means that the weight measurement device has got to be quite thin. This places a challenge on the designers of load cells who now have to use better quality materials which can be quite thin and yet be able to withstand large bending loads. The high quality manufacturers are able to meet this challenge well. You should therefore choose the manufacturer carefully.
