Nothing can compare to the power of the Toyota Corolla. The best-selling badge recently launched its latest generation model, and by the looks of it, it will surely soar at the top of the sales charts. The Corolla was first introduced in Japan in 1966 as a family car, and since then it grew in popularity, taking the rest of the world by storm. It was an affordable, durable, efficient, reliable, and quality car that truly went beyond people’s expectations. The Corolla has been in the market for 47 years now and it shows no sign of stopping. Just this January, the Corolla Furia Concept was introduced—a model so fiercely different from the “bland” sedan the Corolla has become in the past few years. It was a harbinger of what future Corolla models would look like, and the 2014 release does take some of its styling cues from the concept car. New Design Toyota’s automotive engineers and designers listened to their customers on making the design of the new Corolla. In this day and age, it isn’t enough for a car to function; it must also reflect the modern and vibrant style that characterizes peoples’ lifestyles. This is why the new release is a great leap from the previous dull but highly functional models. The redesign not only modernized the exterior but freshened up the interior as well. Still, the company is careful not to alter the core design, considering their loyal market of all ages—aesthetically, the power of the Toyota Corolla appeals to the current market base while also piquing the interest of younger buyers on a search for the best sedan to start their independence, or a family, with. Highlights The new Corolla release has clearly become more dynamic, with a sportier design. The design concept was to create a sleeker, more aerodynamic look by giving the car more rounded corners. One of the major changes done to the new Corolla to keep up with this design concept is the replacement of conventional headlamps for LED lamps. The sleeker and more compact LED lamp assemblies effectively reduce the corner mass associated with conventional headlamps. The change complements the car’s rounded corners and accentuates the new design theme. In addition, by using low-heat LED lamps, a lighter resin lens could be used instead of the thicker glass. This makes the Corolla the first compact sedan to have LED headlamps as standard equipment. The power of the Toyota Corolla doesn’t stop there. New Toyota Grade The new Corolla is offered in four distinct grades, each with its own equipment level. The most interesting would have to be the new LE Eco model, which targets a highway fuel economy rating of over 40 miles per gallon. This new grade enhances the vehicle’s fuel economy thanks to its highly fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine with Valvematic technology, color-keyed rear spoiler, aerodynamic underbody covers, low rolling resistance tires, and continuous variable transmission, or CVT. The Corolla is the best-selling sedan in many countries, including South Africa. South Africans will have a taste of the power of the Toyota Corolla 2014 when the car is launched there early next year.
