Guidelines to Hide Unsightly Nails from Your Hardwood Floor

Online Shopping
Nothing can hamper the beauty of your hardwood floors the way nails do. The sharp edges of rusty nails protruding from nook and canny of your glossy wooden floor can be an eye sore. You are splurging exorbitant money on installing a new hardwood floor; it only stands to reasoning that you pay a little extra to hide those minor discrepancies that has been marring the beauty of your floor. By using few simple tips and techniques, you can hide the unsightly nail heads that has been detracting from the beauty of your hardwood floor. Read on to find out more.

Step1 – First, tap the head of the nail down with a hammer; tap it until the nail is flush with the floor. You might require striking multiple times for the nail to completely sink in the floor. Take care not to apply too much pressure with the hammer as it can damage the surface.

Step2 - Purchase preferred colour wooden filler from your local hardware shop. The filler colour should closely match the colour of your wooden flooring. Place a small bead of wooden filler into the hole and press it hard until it settles. Wood filler tends to shrink as it dries. Make it a point to slightly overfill the hole, so that the nail head is completely covered.

Step4 - Wipe off the excess filler from around the edges of the nail with a wet rag; allow the filler to dry fully before proceeding further. Water based fillers takes longer to dry as compared to solvent fillers. The drying time tends to vary for different manufacturers. Follow the instruction given on the label precisely for best results.

Step5 – Once, the filler has dried completely, sand the surface, so that it is smooth and in level with the surrounding area. While sanding the floor, be extremely careful you do not want to harm the finishing of the wood. Slight application of sandpaper is enough to sand the surface without leaving the telltale signs of scratches.

Step6 - If the filler is not pre-stained or does not match with the colour of your hardwood floor, you can have it varnished or stained to match its colour. Repeat the process with all the nails around house. You need to have ample of time at your disposal to undertake this project, but once completed the results achieved can be stunning.

Handy tips

• If you are new to the project, take time to watch a couple of videos on YouTube before getting started. It will give you a clear idea on how to go about the project.

• If you find it confusing to select the appropriate colour filler, seek assistance of the shopkeeper, who can help you pick the right shade. You can also buy multiple shade wooden fillers and use the one that closely matches with your wooden floor. You can then return the unused containers.

• Never embark on a repair project, without first having a proper safety gear in place.

Repairing nail holes does not necessarily have to be a time consuming and frustrating task. With the aforementioned steps you can do so yourself with ease.

Nothing can mar the beauty of your hardwood floor the way nails do. Learn all simple tips to hide nails from your wooden floor. For further details on same, visit this site.
