As it is Valentine's Day many of us have been thinking of what is the perfect gift to give. Chocolates and flowers are so cliche and overdone. Flowers die so quickly and chocolates are so rich in calories, I prefer something a little different. This year I hinted to my husband the perfect gift for me, would be a gourmet coffee gift basket. I must have hinted enough, because it is what I got and I'm so excited about it! Gourmet coffee gift baskets are a lot of fun to give and receive! They are the perfect gift for so many people as well. They can be appropriate for a casual friend/coworker, to the most important person in you life, your spouse! These delicious gift baskets can range from very small, such as a basket with sample sized coffees and small treats, to something quite grandiose. My husband went all out this year and stocked the basket with some amazing goodies! I will have enough coffee for the next six months - or probably just in time for Christmas! Some popular items to include in these baskets are of course different kinds of coffee. If you are truly looking to impress think about stocking the basket with the best of the best coffee such as Kona, Jamaican Blue Mountain, or maybe even Kopi Luwak. Another great idea is to include different roasts, regions and flavors of coffee. That way the recipient has a variety of delicious options to choose from! I like to give a basket that has light, medium and dark roasts for the different seasons, times of day, and palate options. Some people prefer a light roast, such as a cinnamon or blond roast, while others prefer a darker roast with more robust flavors such as a Spanish or French roast. After the coffee choices have been made, comes the fun part of stocking the gift with lots of goodies. Some of my favorites are: funny coffee mugs, fancy sugars, delicious syrups, biscotti and other baked goods. I love to put some raw sugar that has been infused with vanilla bean. I also like to stop at the local coffee shop and pick up a couple bottles of syrup such as hazelnut flavored and raspberry flavored. Fresh baked scones, muffins, cookies and biscotti are perfect to throw in and add the most wonderful personal touches!
