As a lover of travel, it gets wearying to hear the same fantasy vacation destinations again and again and again. Everyone wants to go to Paris, to Italy, to England, to Germany, to Spain. Some of the more adventurous people will venture outside of the familiarity of Europe to go to Cancun or to see the Pyramids in Egypt. But what use is adventure if it’s all been done before? People need to step outside of the comfort zone if they want to have a vacation that is truly unforgettable. Here is something people rarely think of: traveling to the Middle East. So much nonsense on the news has made people needlessly scared of that beautiful region of the world. In truth, almost all of the Middle East is perfectly safe for travelers and tourists. The United Arab Emirates (think Dubai or Abu Dhabi) is a very tourist-friendly location and a very common one, at that. Or if you want to go more off the beaten track, try traveling to Oman, Qatar, or Kuwait – all very friendly, very safe countries. If you get to talking to people in the Middle East, you will find that Malaysia and Thailand are popular vacation destinations there. Perhaps try one (or both!) of those places next time your finger is hovering over the “buy” button for that plane ticket to London. For me, personally, my favorite vacation ever was my trip to Belize. That’s right! Scary, drug-infested Central America. Except, not. Because there are issues with drug cartels in some areas of Central and South America, it does not mean that everywhere is unsafe. In Belize, I took part in Belize cave tours, including zip line cave exploration. It was a terrifying yet exhilarating experience! Belize cave tubing and zip line is truly a unique experience that I would recommend any time above a walk through the Paris Catacombs. Not letting fear-mongering cable news sources control the fun you have is truly the first step to personal freedom. Instead of believing bogus stories about terrorism and drug lords, explore those areas of the world yourself. You will find, without fail, friendly accommodating people, unique once-in-a-lifetime experiences, incredible local goods that you would never see in Europe, and endless precious memories. All you need to do is take the first step. Instead of London, try Muscat. Instead of Rome, try Belize. You will never regret it. For more information: Belize Charlie’s Cave Tubing
