Back in my own days as a university student, when I initiated my own separate research and thesis proposals, I clearly recall the apprehensions I went through realizing I would be writing a thesis proposal. The fear and concern was more to do with how to draw up a formal document summarizing my vision and perception towards my thesis and research proposals, and was not probably any way an indication of me being unable to undertake the footwork inherent in these tasks. Writing a dissertation proposal can be a source of considerable anxiety for a student looking forward to conclude years of academics with the submission of his thesis, and for some may well be the beginning of the end of their years of academic toil and labor. Just like when someone is in a race and is able to be perfectly upbeat and active throughout the duration of the event, but as he turns the last bend and sees the finish line, it’s not unheard of that the runner may feel a sense of accomplishment and may become mentally complacent. Similarly, when a Graduate student comes to the point of beginning his final thesis or proposal, and initiates his dissertation by submitting and writing a research proposal, to a certain extent he may be the runner on the last bend of his race, with the finish line being observable at the periphery of his vision. Thesis proposal writing is serious work, since a mistake or a miscalculation in deciding upon a proper topic in the initial stages of designing the dissertation or thesis could have the adverse impact of having the student toil through the research but not have meaningful and corresponding quality reflected in his final document submitted to the course coordinator. Thus it would be needless recklessness on the part of the student to needlessly rush designing a proposal without first taking the time, effort and pausing to do the necessary groundwork to ensure that he has proper waypoints designed in his research so that the thesis presented on the conclusion of the entire arduous exercise is a professional document, unambiguous and leaves little chance of being challenged by anyone else.
