If you have made the choice to enroll your child in a Montessori preschool in Corona, then congratulations! This really is one of the best things you can do for your child. The educational format behind these schools is wonderful and can benefit your child in some really important ways. While the school itself is meant to prepare your child for future academic pursuits, there are some things you can and should do to prepare your child for the preschool format. The following are some preparation ideas for you to consider: - Spend time with other children: This tip is very much geared toward the oldest children and the only children. If you have a child who is not regularly exposed to other children within the home, then they will need a chance to interact with others before the first day of school. The dynamics that can exist between children can sometimes be tricky, and it takes time for children to learn how to cope with these things. If your home setting is not one that has taught your child these things, then you should find a way to expose your child to other kids their age.
- Have mini lessons: Small children are not always able to naturally sit and take in a lesson. That can be a problem when it comes to the first academic exposures. While the Montessori method is very hands on and involves a lot of moving around, it will still be necessary for your child to have moments to sit still and listen to instructions. Practicing this behavior at home can be very helpful for your child and the teacher.
- Teach some songs: This unique method of teaching involves a lot of music. Your child will be most successful if they know how to hear and repeat a tune. Practice learning some simple songs with them so that they understand this concept. Music is integral to this teaching method, so make sure your child will be able to participate in this.
- Expose them to coloring: Art is another staple of this teaching method. There will be lots of different art projects and crafts to create. Help your child learn how to color, including how to properly hold crayons and pencils. These basic motor skills will be helpful in taking full advantage of the art facets of this educational platform.
- Get them potty trained: This is not necessary for every institution, but many will not accept children that are still in diapers. Even if your chosen establishment does accept children in diapers, your child will get far more out of the school experience if they are already potty trained. This will make things easier on the teachers as well.
- Leave them with other adults for a time: Part of the preschool experience involves children being away from their parents and with other adult figures. If this is not something that your child is familiar with, then you will want to take some time to offer this experience. You do not want your child to panic when you leave them at the school, so let them get some experience in learning that you will always come back, and that other adults can offer some fun experiences.
Some of these tips are quite simple, but all of them can help your child be prepared to enter a Montessori preschool in Corona with a positive attitude. You want your child to be excited about this new step in their life, so make sure you can do what is possible to avoid attachment frustrations and abandonment fears. Help them to know the right way to act in these settings. All of these will make the preschool experience more happy and successful.
