6 Safety Reminders When You Go Riding Out of Town

Travel & Tourism

It’s a really nice treat when you get to take a few days out of town to play. There are so many things to do depending on where you live, but they all help you stay active and keep the kid inside you alive. Some people like to go boating or water-skiing on the lake. Some like to hike or bike in the mountains. Others live for snow sports like skiing and snowboarding. A favorite activity for many all across the country is riding on an all-terrain vehicle. In Minnesota, this is an especially favored outdoor recreation. They load up their ATV trailers in Milwaukee and head out for the weekend to feel the wind in their faces and the rush of adrenaline in their chests. It can be hard to remember everything you need to bring or do to prepare for this excursion, so here are six reminders for when you take your ATV out for a ride.

1. Tell Someone Where You’re Going

It’s so important that you let people know where you’re headed when you leave town, and also when you set out on the trails with your ATV. Advise them of the time you expect to be back, too, and then stick to your plan. If you don’t return when planned for whatever reason--you got lost, had a problem with the vehicle, or got hurt--then your friends and family would know when and where to start searching for you.

2. Bring Enough Gas

Have a full tank of gas when you start out on your ride and bring an extra supply with you. Sometimes you start out riding and don’t realize how much gas you have in the tank. If you’ve forgotten to refuel, you may be stuck if you run out of gas out on the trail.

3. Take a Buddy with You

Going out in pairs is always a good idea when you’re heading out on the trails for a ride. You can keep track of each other, keep one another company, and be of assistance if a hazard occurs. For instance, if you get a flat tire or slide down an embankment, your buddy can help you in this situation or ride back to camp to gather others to help.

4. Bring an Emergency Pack

It’s easy enough to put together a pack with snacks, water, warm clothes, first-aid supplies, a knife, and a flashlight. This will be helpful in case you are injured, stuck waiting in one place for a while, or are lost and find yourself spending the night outdoors while a team searches for you. Keeping your cell phone on you can also be a good resource to call for help or allow emergency crews to pinpoint your location.

5. Become Familiar with the Area

Study a map of the area and bring it with you so that you can stay on the designated trails. This is for your safety and also for the preservation of plants and animals in the area.

6. Wear Safety Gear

It is not uncommon for recreational riders to crash or fly off their ATV unexpectedly. Wearing a helmet, gloves, boots, and other padding is important to protect you from bodily harm.

These reminders are meant to keep you and your loved ones organized and ready for your trips outside of town. So, before you hitch up your truck to your ATV trailers in Milwaukee, make sure you’re appropriately prepared so that you can have the safest and most enjoyable experience possible. It will definitely be a great experience for you, your family, and friends.
