4 Heating Repairs You Can Do on Your Own

Business

When your furnace isn't working properly, you can be left in the cold. You need to know what you can do to complete heating repair in Minneapolis to get it working once again. There can be simple fixes that you can do on your own to figure out what's wrong and make sure that it's working properly. Here are some of the top fixes that you can do on your own to fix the problem.

Clogged Air Filter

One of the most common issues that people struggle with regarding their HVAC system is the air filter. The air filter works to catch dirt and debris before it goes into the ventilation system. However, over time, the air filter can become clogged. You should be cleaning or replacing the air filter on a regular basis. If you don't, the system will be forced to work harder to push the air through the clog. In the end, your system could end up malfunctioning. When your heater isn't working properly, start with the air filter. Make sure that it's cleared out so the system can continue to function properly.

Blocked Vents

If the ventilation system isn't in good condition, the heat won't be able to pass through them. Dents and cracks in the vents could lead to air leaks, which can increase your utility bills. Take the time to check the ventilation system. Look for signs of damage or excessive wear. You could also have the vents cleaned out. Dirt, debris, allergens, pests, insects, and more can get into the vents, negatively impacting the quality of the air inside of your home. Have the vents cleaned out and replaced, so you can continue to get the air you need where you need it.

Pilot Light Issues

If you have a natural gas furnace, you have a pilot light. The pilot light is necessary to help your furnace warm the air that passes through it. The light may go out, which will cause your system to stop working properly. Check for the pilot light by opening up your furnace and looking for a blue light. If the light is yellow, you should get out of your home and contact professionals to come check it out. A yellow light signals the presence of carbon monoxide, which is a deadly gas. If the light is out, you can follow the instructions to relight it.

Thermostat Malfunctions

Issues with your thermostat can be simple to fix, but they can make all the difference in whether or not your furnace will work for you. If the heat setting isn't high enough, it may not turn on. If the thermostat isn't set to heat, you may have cool air. If your thermostat is old or the batteries need to be replaced, you may not be able to get the furnace to turn on. Check out you thermostat. Determine if it's time to replace it. Make sure that the settings are all in order and make any necessary changes to get your furnace running.

If you've tried to fix the problem on your own and your furnace still isn't working, it would be wise to call in the professionals for your heating repair in Minneapolis. They can diagnose the problem for you and help you determine what the best course of action would be for your furnace. You may find that your furnace is beyond repair and you need to replace it. If this is the case, the professionals can help you choose the right furnace and make sure that it's connected and working properly to help you warm your home to your desired temperature.
