Some Tips to Mai Chau Valley

Although Mai Chau, Vietnam does not have as many attractive landscapes as its “neighbor” Moc Chau, it still draws a lot of attention of tourists because of its dreamy beauty, cool and fresh air, cultural diversity and unique cuisine. Here are some tips for you to gain the best of Mai Chau with only 2 days 1 night. Best time to go: Because Mai Chau is a valley, so the weather in Mai Chau is very comfortable. Summer is not too hot and winter is not too cold. Therefore, you can travel to Mai Chat at any time. However, the best times to visit are: - October to December: It is the time when the winter comes, so it is very cool. Besides, you can enjoy the outstanding scenery of white blooming peach and plum flowers everywhere in Mai Chau. - March to April: It is the time when Ban flowers bloom. Especially, there are many festivals held in this time. How to get to: There are many ways to get to Mai Chau. You can go there by cars or motorbikes. However, most of tourists come here by motorbikes because it is just 140km from Hanoi and 60km from Hoa Binh. If you want to go to Mai Chau by motorbikes: Yoi can depart from Hanoi to Xuan Mai – Luong Son – Hoa Binh – Muong Khen – Mai Chau, along the National Road No. 6 is the shortest and fastest way. In case you do not want this way, you can choose another: follow the National Road No.12B, but it will take you a lot of time and there is not much to see on the way. If you go to Mai Chau by cars: You can go to My Dinh or Giap Bat bus station to catch the bus to Mai Chau. When you arrive in the T-junction Tong Dau, please get off the bus and catch the motorbike driver to Mai Chau valley which is just 5km from there. We have another way, it's take part in a vietnam motorcycle tour of ADV Vietnam Motorbike Tour and Dirtbike Travel company. Travel in Mai Chau: Mai Chau valley is quite small, all destinations and villages are near each other, so the most popular mean of transportation is bicycles. All guest houses or home-stay have bicycles for rent. Where to stay and eat • Stay in Mai Chau: Like the other tourist places, home-stay and guest house services develop very much in Mai Chau, especially in Lac village and Poom Coong village. So, you do not have to worry much about accommodation. Home-stay here are stilt houses of the local so that makes tourists, especially international tourists feel very interested in this kind of accommodation. And one special feature is that you do not have to book accommodation in advance, for most of tourists coming here just stay for 1 night and after that head to Moc Chau or come back Hanoi. You can book accommodation directly when you arrive in Mai Chau, book in advance sometimes even more expensive. However, if your group is big, about 20 people, you should book in advance for sure. • What and where to eat in Mai Chau: You can eat at your rest houses or hotels. If not, you can go to Mai Chau market to enjoy all the worth-to-eat dishes. However, the best advice is that you should eat at home-stay and the host will cook for you with the best flavor and cheap price and Mai Chau market does not open every day. The most popular dishes in Mai Chau are Lam rice, steamed glutinous rice, Muong pork meat, bitter bamboo shoot, chicken, baked spring fish, Mai Ha wine, sour fish… Where to visit in Mai Chau: As mentioned above that Mai Chau does not have so many destinations to visit but it still attracts a lot of tourists. If you come here in October, November and December, you will be sunk in the beauty of white plum, and peach flowers. And if you visit Mai Chau in March and April, you can come to Ban forest to take photos. Besides, you can visit the following places such as: - Thung Khe pass (White stone pass): On the way to Mai Chau, you have to pass Thung Khe pass. Here is not only the track that all riders want to come at least one time in their lives but also the place to provide the best view in Mai Chau. Standing in Thung Khe pass you can enjoy 4 seasons in only one day. - Lac village and Poom Coong village: They are the biggest and most crowded villages in Mai Chau. If you want to book a room or home-stay, eat all the specialities, buy souvenir, and discover the daily life and festivals here, you should stay in these 2 villages. - Mo Luong cave and Chieu cave: They are the 2 big and unique caves in Mai Chau. The most special feature of these 2 caves is the thousand year stalactite of different forms and colors. - Other famous places: Van village, Nhot village, green vegetable fields…
