Most Americans are familiar with the asphalt shingles that are popular around the country. These are popular because they are cheap and easy to install. There are many other options that are popular, including the best roofing material in Kennesaw for the environment. Recycled Material Any discussion about green roofing should start with recycled materials. Many times, an old roof is stripped from the house and sent to a recycling facility where it can be ground up and remade into new shingles. This is especially true for asphalt shingles, metal panels, or wooden shakes. Reclaimed Materials Along with recycling old roofing materials, there are some that can simply be reused on a new roof. Clay and slate tiles are ideal for reusing because they can last 100 years or longer. Not only does this keep the old tiles out of landfills, it limits the natural resources that need to be used for new tiles. Renewable Wood Not only can wood shingles be recycled, new materials can be green because they come from a managed forest. A managed forest is essentially a tree farm that is grown with the sole purpose of making shingles and siding for a house. This limits the old growth from being cut down and natural habitats from being destroyed. It also provides the homeowners with a greener option if they really desire the wood look. A Cool Roof A cool roof is environmentally friendly because it helps control energy costs in the house. A cool roof is one that uses lightly colored, nearly white asphalt shingles. The light color reflects the sun’s warming rays off the house and helps control cooling costs in the summer months. Without the sun’s rays to heat the house, the air conditioner needs to work less and energy utilization falls. These are also a very inexpensive green option, being roughly the same price as traditional asphalt shingles. Metal One of the materials that is gaining popularity is the standing seam metal. Large sheets are laid across the roof and pinched together at the joints. Metal roofing is one of the most durable materials and can also help control energy costs by reflecting the sun off the house. The panels can also be greener by being made out of old metal objects that have been recycled. The best roofing material in Kennesaw can be a highly subjective topic. Many homeowners are invested in protecting the environment and look for ways to incorporate this in everything they do. Environmentally friendly roofing materials are quite popular in many different designs.
