Indoor air pollution can be as severe as outdoor pollution. However, not many homeowners are aware of this fact. Your house has multiple things, objects, and habits that promote air pollution. A constant headache, dizziness, irritation of the eyes and fatigue are some common signs of you and your family living in a polluted environment. Though these affects are treatable, in the long run, your family may suffer from conditions like heart disease, respiratory diseases, and even cancer if the ailment of the air is not treated in time. So, is there any way out? Certainly. Installing an air cleaner or an air purifier gives you and your family pure and healthy air to breathe while functioning silently in the background. However, before you get one installed, you must know the five major sources of air pollution in your home. #1 Your Brand-New Carpet We know you must be all excited about that carpet you recently bought from the flea market. However, you must be aware of the threats it brings with it. The materials used in the making of a carpet emit a variety of volatile organic compounds that can cause harm to your family’s health. The solution is simple. Air out your new carpet before laying it. Once laid, keep the fan of that room on for a few days. However, if you are getting it installed in your baby’s room, consider putting an air cleaner from a trusted brand like Samsung as well. Because prevention is any day better than cure! #2 Everyday Heating Equipment Heating equipment like heaters, stove, chimney and fireplaces produce carbon monoxide and can be a major cause of fatigue, headaches, and dizziness. You can’t control the emissions, but you can yearly hire a professional to keep them well-maintained and check whether they need to be replaced or not. From mold and mildew to pets and insects, all of them have a fair share in the contribution to air pollution. The growth of mold and mildew is encouraged by moisture, and the best way to keep your house away from them is by making it moisture-free. Also, make sure there are no leaks in the house, ventilators and exhaust fans are working well. An air cleaner from any of the trusted brands like Samsung can easily help you keep the air of your house pure to breathe. #4 Tobacco Smoke Tobacco smoke is harmful to one and all. The health risk of smoking need not be mentioned as they are well known. The chemicals emitted by cigarettes stay in the environment long after one has stopped smoking. Tobacco smoke can cause asthma, lung ailments, cancer and other dangerous diseases. Don’t let others and your family members smoke inside the house to make it strictly smoke-free. Especially, if you have infants and pregnant women in the house. #5 Products Made from Polyvinyl Chloride Another major source of indoor air pollution are products made using Polyvinyl Chloride. They emit phthalates that can cause reproductive problems and hormonal disabilities. Also, the flame retardant chemicals released by plastic can cause neurobehavioral changes. If you smell any chemical odour, ventilate the place until it goes away. As a precautionary measure, vacuum around televisions and computers regularly. No matter how much you try to keep the air inside the house healthy and pure, there may be presence of certain elements that can cause harm to the health. Getting an air purifier installed can help keep your family away from possible health hazards. So, get one installed if you already don’t have one.
