When Dallas Alford, founder of Island Watch Co. was asked why the company made the decision to wholesale their product line to retailers, he responded by saying ‘When I started Island Watch Co., my vision was to be an online store that focused on selling our island lifestyle products to our end customers. We never really envisioned offering our products to retailers. Not long after we started, we did a photo shoot with Mango Media in St. Thomas that works with a lot of jewellery boutiques on the island. The boutique owners saw pictures of our watches on Mango Media’s website and approached us about carrying our island style wood watches in their stores. We gave it a go and it was a 100% success for the boutiques and Island Watch Co. and we haven’t looked back since.” Island Watch Co. now has island reps that focus on reaching out to retail stores in the south east (NC, SC, GA & FL) and north east (VA, MD, DC, NY & NJ) to see if they are interested in carrying the Island Watch Co. product line. Alford was asked what Island Watch Co. looks for in a retail store when they decide to approach them about carrying their island style apparel. “We look for retail stores that love the island lifestyle as much as we do. It is important that they understand that we sell a brand that consists of a product line developed for those that love the island lifestyle. If the retail store caters to those that love the island lifestyle, our watches will, without a doubt, be a good fit for their store.” Alford also stated that Island Watch Co. is 100% committed to the natural environment that island enthusiasts love so much. To show their commitment, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each wooden watch is donated to Oceana, a non-profit organization that is focused on preserving the world’s oceans. Alford says, “It’s imperative that the retail stores we partner with share in the philosophy that it is imperative that it is up to all of us that love the island lifestyle to preserve our oceans and marine environments.” Island Watch Co. believes that with the growing concern for the environment, both end customers and retail stores feel good knowing that when they purchase an Island Watch Co. watch that a portion of the proceeds goes back to preserving the environment we love so much. When Alford was asked what other products Island Watch Co. has coming down the pipeline, he answered by saying “We are currently working on some hat designs that will be available in the near future that anyone can wear that needs more island time in their life.
