Woodcarving has many charms, not least the ease with which one can get into this remarkable craft without the need for too much investment in either machinery or equipment. Or at least, that is the case in theory – in practice, even the most tentative beginner woodcarver may invest in their first tool, only to soon hanker for another, and then another in order to pursue their desired projects. The truth is that one tool is rarely enough for even relatively inexperienced carvers undertaking the simplest of projects, and purchasing the complete set of tools needed for even merely intermediate-level carving tasks can feel prohibitively expensive for the novice.
