Dining Out in Dorset with Man's Best Friend

Travel & Tourism
While taking the family pet away with you is a wonderful experience, finding suitable places to eat can be one of the more difficult aspects of dog-friendly holidays. Dorset, fortunately, boasts a huge variety of eateries that welcome a visit from man’s best friend – here we list a few of the best.

Edie Mae’s

Located in the village of Stourpaine, with easy access from the brilliant walking route that is the North Dorset Trailway, Edie Mae’s offers a tea room with hot drinks, homemade cakes and light meals. A brilliant place to visit with your dog, it has a wonderfully creative feel to it – the owners redesign and sell old furniture, and there’s an art gallery with works from local creators as well as various creative workshops.

Flirt Café Bar

Flirt Café Bar in Bournemouth is undoubtedly an ideal destination for dog-friendly holidays. Dorset visitors love this quirky establishment, with its unique décor and furnishings and its packed events schedule.

You can enjoy a range of meals and snacks, as well as hot and cold drinks including milkshakes and smoothies, and spend a few hours relaxing in these special surroundings. Your canine companion will be welcomed with free dog treats and a water bowl to quench their thirst.

Under the Greenwood Tree Café

You’ll find this café on the edge of the expansive Thorncombe Wood, making it the perfect stop-off after a long walk with your best friend. With a variety of hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes and snacks, as well as free treats for dogs, this one is not to be missed.

The Greyhound Inn

Given the name, you can imagine how well-suited this venue is to dog-friendly holidays! Dorset is well-known for the historic ruins of Corfe Castle, which makes for a great day out with the dog, and the Greyhound Inn in the nearby village is a brilliant place for a break after spending a day exploring the county’s heritage.

Serving delicious, locally sourced food, with a menu that changes daily based on the availability of fresh ingredients, this classic-looking pub guarantees you and your pet a warm welcome. Why not try out gourmet fish and chips, a stone baked pizza or a delicious Sunday roast? Your dog can expect to be fussed over and treated with biscuits, too. There’s also a beer garden with fantastic views of Corfe Castle and the Swanage Steam Railway.

The Smugglers Inn

The lengthy oceanside walking route known as the South West Coast Path is a blessing for dog-friendly holidays; Dorset and its splendid Jurassic Coast open up before you, and the cliff-top Smugglers Inn at Osmington Mills makes for a welcome resting spot. Take in the coastal views from this traditional English pub, complete with its scenic beer garden. There’s plenty of tasty food on offer, and dogs are thoroughly welcomed – they can even enjoy some special doggy ice cream!

As you can see from this list, when it comes to dog-friendly holidays, Dorset really stands out from the rest. With plenty of great places to visit for drinks, snacks or meals where your canine companion will be welcome too, it’s the perfect destination for a getaway with the family pet.
