Northern Virginia has become the leading hub for Information Technology work. This has been sustained over the years because of the numerous government contractors located in the area. It is reported that half of the nation’s internet traffic passes through Northern Virginia, and much of that is from the CIA and Department of Defense. Because of all of this technology development, the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), a prestigious group of technology companies located in Northern Virginia, was founded. The NVTC has around 1100 member companies that include AOL, Microsoft and Northrop Grumman. The partnership of so many technologically related companies is great for the industry, as it promotes itself as well as strengthens its members. All of this IT opportunity has led Northern Virginia to become the leader in IT training as well. Many popular training companies have branches there, and some are even based out of Northern Virginia, trying to capitalize on the high demand of skilled technology workers. For example, Learning Tree is a popular training corporation that is based out of Reston, Virginia. Others have taken notice of the technology trend in Northern Virginia. Recently, the Academy of Computer Education (ACE) has opened up another training location in Ashburn, Virginia. This is following a trend of growing IT work in the Northern Virginia area. Opening a new branch in a tougher economy is risky, but the rewards will benefit the local area and overall job market, since people in the work force will have more experience and training due to the IT training companies. Northern Virginia has become a hub for Information Technology, and promises to be one for the predictable future. With the United States government contracting so many companies in Northern Virginia, along with the private sector, the technology field looks strong. IT training helps potential workers stand out in interviews, and also offers current workers job security and chances for promotion.
