Your proofreader or editor should tell you if there is any clumsy writing; sentences that need reading t... (read more)

15. Why I love horror movies
March 05, 2010
Now for the record, let’s make something clear right up front – when I was younger, I was terrified of horror movies. Even though I never watched them, just the idea of them would freak me out.I grew up in a small town, and I can still see myself wandering one of the six or seven aisles at our local video stores (VHS anyone?) and glancing across the cover art on the front of any given horror movie.
Ghoulies especially used to scare me because it showed this nasty little creature poking his head out of the toilet. I hadn’t even seen the movie but that was enough to make me check the toile... (read more)

18. What type of writer do you want to be?
March 05, 2010
What type of writer do you want to be? It isn’t as clear cut as fiction vs. non-fiction anymore. For the fiction writer, you need to consider the length of the stories you will write. Are you a novel writer or short story writer? You need to consider variables such as genre (Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi, etc). A lot of genres can be further pared down into more specific categories. An example of this would be dark fantasy, high fantasy, sword and sorcery fantasy, etc.
You should also decide who your target audience will be. Fiction is divided into age groups; toddlers, pict... (read more)

24. My review of The Final Destination
March 02, 2010
I’ve always viewed the Final Destination movies as the horror movie genre’s equivalent of fast food. They’re quick and gruesome entries into the genre with over-the-top creative kills and a fast pace. The first movie, which was released in 2000, was the first to introduce the idea of a group of people escaping death, only to have the Grim Reaper circle back around and claim them anyway. It had a modest box office take, and 3 years later came the sequel, which still remains my favorite of the series.
The second one followed the same idea but took a more black comedy approach with the proc... (read more)

25. My review of Halloween II
March 02, 2010
I think Rob Zombie is a severely underrated director. People give him a lot of flack for his directorial skills, but I believe that while he is not everyone’s cup of tea, he must still be applauded for the skills he displays behind the camera. Although I can see WHY a lot of people don’t like him as a director (he tends to incorporate a “white trash element” into all of his movies) he still has a flair for atmosphere that rivals almost any other horror movie director I know. The way he can film a movie and truly make you feel like it was filmed in the 70’s goes to show you that the man has tal... (read more)
