Memorable Quote 1: Your voice speaks volumes about you - what is yours saying?
Memorable Quote 2: If you are not nervous in public speaking, then I am.
Author Comment / Biography: The Voice Lady, Nancy Daniels, has been involved in voice training since 1977. A graduate of Gettysburg College with a BA in music, she discovered the techniques for improving the sound of the speaking voice while in graduate school at American University in Washington, D.C.
Prior to her move to Canada in 1981, Nancy worked for G. Schirmer, ICM Artists and the Aspen Music Festival where she was director of public relations. Aware that her own speaking voice was a predominant factor in obtaining employment with such reputable firms, she believes that a dynamic and mature-sounding voice is a fantastic asset, increasing one’s confidence and self-esteem.
While in Canada, Nancy taught Voice and Public Speaking at the University of Western Ontario’s Graduate School of Journalism, The Ivey School of Business, and St. Peter’s Seminary. In 1989 she started her own company, Communication Dynamics, for businesses and the general public.
Upon returning to the States in 1997, she opened her business under the name Voice Dynamic and from 1999 to 2003 continued to teach Voice & Diction and Public Speaking at the college level.
In addition to her guest speaking engagements, Nancy holds private, group, and corporate workshops throughout the United States and Canada.
For those unable to work with her directly, she is now offering Voicing It!, the only voice improvement course on video covering The Voice Dynamic Approach.

December 08, 2012
One of the biggest frustrations when trying to communicate with those who mumble is the fact that we, the listeners, cannot understand their diction. What generally results is that we will ask that oft-repeated question, "What did you say?"
Recently, a young man called me and wanted to k...

Yes, you will have a richer, warmer, more mature sound when you discover your ‘real’ voice. And, yes, you will be able to increase your volume without shouting when you discover your ‘real’ voice. But there is something else you should consider if public speaking is your goal. The likelihood of s...

136. Accents Are Not a Problem As Long As Your Speech Is Understandable
November 28, 2012
A lot of people contact me because they want to speak more clearly, more distinctly. What I explain to my clients and customers is that my goal for them is not to eliminate their accent – merely to have them be understood the 1st time they say it. I like accents. An accent or even a dialect is p...

137. A Smile Goes a Long Way in Public Speaking
November 20, 2012
Do you ever think about smiling when addressing an audience? If not, you should. Did you know that it takes 43 muscles to frown but only 17 to smile? Therefore, when you consider energy consumption, it is much wiser to smile than it is to show fear no matter how bad your nervousness. In additio...

November 20, 2012
Do you know the difference between projecting your voice and yelling? The latter hurts your throat and can be painful to your listeners’ ears. The latter also does not make your children sit up and take notice of what you are saying. Instead, they either cower in fear or stop listening to you. ...

140. The Overuse and Abuse of the Word - And - in Public Speaking
November 13, 2012
When I teach public speaking, one of the tips I offer is to learn how to stop connecting your sentences with verbal tics, such as “um” or “ah.” There is a word, however, that is that is sometimes abused in speaking as well.
Many people connect their sentences with the word and. Afte...
