Memorable Quote 1: Your voice speaks volumes about you - what is yours saying?

Memorable Quote 2: If you are not nervous in public speaking, then I am.

Author Comment / Biography:
The Voice Lady, Nancy Daniels, has been involved in voice training since 1977. A graduate of Gettysburg College with a BA in music, she discovered the techniques for improving the sound of the speaking voice while in graduate school at American University in Washington, D.C.

Prior to her move to Canada in 1981, Nancy worked for G. Schirmer, ICM Artists and the Aspen Music Festival where she was director of public relations. Aware that her own speaking voice was a predominant factor in obtaining employment with such reputable firms, she believes that a dynamic and mature-sounding voice is a fantastic asset, increasing one’s confidence and self-esteem.

While in Canada, Nancy taught Voice and Public Speaking at the University of Western Ontario’s Graduate School of Journalism, The Ivey School of Business, and St. Peter’s Seminary. In 1989 she started her own company, Communication Dynamics, for businesses and the general public.

Upon returning to the States in 1997, she opened her business under the name Voice Dynamic and from 1999 to 2003 continued to teach Voice & Diction and Public Speaking at the college level.

In addition to her guest speaking engagements, Nancy holds private, group, and corporate workshops throughout the United States and Canada.

For those unable to work with her directly, she is now offering Voicing It!, the only voice improvement course on video covering The Voice Dynamic Approach.

511. Good Voice Training Is the Fundamental -- Everything Else Is the Icing on the Cake!
June 02, 2010

When I first started my business many years ago, someone commented that voice training was the icing on the cake. Obviously this woman had missed the basis of my presentation because good voice training is the cake. Everything and anything else is the icing. And, I told her so. I likened this co...

512. If You Clip Your Words, Your Message Is Getting Lost
June 01, 2010

Recently I was talking to a woman on the phone and I was continually asking her to repeat herself. When our business was completed, I told her that because of the way she clipped her words, I had missed much of what she was saying. Admittedly, had I been facing her in conversation, it would have b...

June 01, 2010

514. The 3 Factors that Influence the Sound of Your Speaking Voice
June 01, 2010

Through my many years in the voice business, I have learned more from my clients than any book or theory on voice. What has been extremely fascinating is what I have discovered as to why we sound the way we sound. It didn't start out as study, rather it is the years I spent listening to my clients...

515. What Image Do You Project When Approaching the Lectern?
May 20, 2010

Often we are so consumed by our speech or presentation, our delivery, or our nervousness, that we fail to recognize the value of composure in approaching the lectern or the head of the boardroom table. You are judged not only when you begin to speak but also during your walk to the front of the roo...

516. Does Your Voice Quiver in Public Speaking?
May 20, 2010

Imagine that you are standing in front of an audience. Your hands are cold and clammy, your knees are wobbly, and your stomach is in knots. You manage to smile but you can feel your lips twitching. You open your mouth to speak, praying that your trembling lips allow for your voice to come out. ...

517. Which World-Renowned Public Speaker Is Suffering from Vocal Abuse?
May 20, 2010

The other day I heard a commercial with 2 motivational speakers and was appalled at how bad one of the voices sounded. Having not heard this particular man in several years, I was stunned by the amount of hoarseness with which he is afflicted. Considering that his voice is his meal-ticket, I canno...

518. Do You Know the Difference Between Your Habitual Voice and Your 'Real' One?
May 11, 2010

Did you know that you have 2 voices? The voice you use everyday and don’t think about is known as your habitual voice. It is a sound that is higher in pitch than it should be, thinner in quality than it could be, and possibly nasal to boot. It is the sound you probably find unappealing on your an...

May 11, 2010

520. Why the Pause is Invaluable in Public Speaking
May 05, 2010

Sometimes it appears that there is just too much to think about, to be aware of, and to focus upon in public speaking. While that may seem true at first, if you allow yourself to pause during your delivery, you will discover one of the most important aids when delivering a speech or presentation. ...
