1. Why Studying More is Counterproductive
July 07, 2020

Aside from videogames, one of the other things I like to do during my free time is to practice music production. Ever since I got into it, I never listened to music the same again. Now I listen to every song with a more analytical ear. I pay attention to the different sounds, how they’re used, and how they work together with the rest of the sounds and instruments. And being the newbie that I was, and still sort of am to this day, I was constantly on the hunt for new sound effects, new instruments, new softwares, new this, new that. I’ll admit I went a bit too far. I spent a lot ... (read more)

2. Falling In Love With Fictional Characters
July 07, 2020

Yesterday, I finished rewatching one of my favorite childhood animated shows, Avatar: The Last Airbender The show was heavily inspired by East Asian culture, specifically their arts, mythology, philosophy, religion, architecture, and music. After finishing the show, I have to give props to the writers for their fantastic world building skills. But in my opinion, they did an even better job of creating characters that are so lovable mainly because they showed every side of them. Their good side and bad side. Their sense of humor. Their quirks. Even their ... (read more)

3. Earning Money While Being At War With Extraterrestrial Beings
July 07, 2020

I read an article about McDonald’s and how they’ve been navigating through COVID. Because of the spike in new cases, McDonald’s has to delay reopening their restaurants for another three weeks. How well are they going to be off? My guess is, they’re going to do relatively fine. Why? They have the ability to be flexible and adaptive, specifically with their drive-thru and delivery service. With those two, they can still serve their customers without putting anyone’s health in danger (except maybe their workers). Unlike smaller restaurants that can’t provide either of th... (read more)

4. The Irony of Independence Day
July 04, 2020

Today is Independence Day. The day where Americans celebrate the moment the Founding Fathers decided to sever their connection with Great Britain. To go a little deeper: The day the colonies, soon-to-be known as America, becomes its own country without anyone telling them what to do. They think the way they want. They work the way they want. They run things the way they want. They live however they want. That’s independence in its purest form. Unfortunately, that’s not something you see in a lot of people nowadays. When it comes to thinking, a lot o... (read more)

5. A Small Glimpse of How Powerful Copywriting Can Be
July 02, 2020

There’s a good man named Neville Medhora and once upon a time, he owned an e-commerce site called HouseOfRave where he sold party items like glow-in-the-dark sticks and disco balls. It was a pretty successful business considering he made enough money to pay his bills, save a decent amount of money, and still have extra left over to buy whatever he wanted. Did I mention he also had a nice fat email list of over 7,000 buyers that he would never email? His friend, while shaking his head in disappointment, told Neville that he should start sending promotional emails, otherwise he’s ... (read more)

6. Let Me Take You Back to My Humble Beginnings
July 02, 2020

In June of 2019, I was in Atlanta for David Neagle’s live event, The Art of Success Summit. I was still working on my EZPC Building blog at the time, but I’ve been getting thoughts about putting this blog behind me and pursuing a new project. I didn’t know what yet, but I spent a lot of time in Atlanta thinking about it. Throughout the time I've been working on my blog, I was teaching myself new skills on the side like social media ads and SEO. I didn’t tip my toes into copywriting until I came across a website called Kopywriting Kourse while I was surfing the web while I s... (read more)

7. A World With Untrustworthy Doctors
June 24, 2020

I was doing my daily journal entry yesterday. One thought led to another and this question popped into my mind. Can we trust our doctors? It’s a very random thought, but a potentially scary one too. Imagine what our lives would be like if we can’t even rely on doctors to help us when something goes wrong with our bodies. So I decided to look that question up to see what other people think of it. I’ve seen some interesting answers. What shocked me the most was an article explaining why you shouldn’t trust a doctor, written by a doctor himself. While it was an interestin... (read more)

8. Here's a Corny Joke For You
June 23, 2020

What did the cyberbird say when it flew over Fiverr? Cheap. Cheap. Cheap. Don’t laugh too hard now, it’s true. You can find so many different kinds of services there, and a lot of the services that are normally expensive are priced as low as $5. While that sounds pretty nice, it doesn’t mean you should jump on those services and outsource everything to low cost Fiverr freelancers. There’s a saying that goes like this: “Cheap is the new expensive.” Let me give you an example of what that means. Many years ago, I wanted to buy a new mouse for my ... (read more)

9. What Gets People Hooked On This Scripted Show
June 22, 2020

I talk a lot about why entertainment is a great tool when selling. And if you’re still not convinced, here’s one more reason that proves it. When I was around seven years old, one of my old classmates introduced me to WWE. At the time, being a person seeing that type of entertainment for the first time, I was glued to the show. There was a lot of trash-talking, fighting, cool dramatic entrances, and audience chanting. It was mesmerizing. Later on, one of my friends told me that everything you see in WWE is scripted. It’s all fake. My heart broke a little bit when ... (read more)

10. One Reason Why This Gym Is So Successful
June 20, 2020

I really miss my gym and all the fit, muscular people that I see there. What’s the gym I go to, you wonder? One of the most convenient gyms around. Planet Fitness. It’s inexpensive, it’s relatively close to my house, my friend recommended it. They’re simply one of the best gyms around. My first day of exercising there was not that bad of an experience. Partially it’s because I’ve had a weight training class back in high school, but it’s something about the brand that makes me feel comfortable. The company’s slogan is written everywhere. “The Judgement Free Zo... (read more)

11. The Success Behind My Short-lived Resume Writing Service
June 17, 2020

Before I got into copywriting, I actually ran a resume and cover letter writing service for roughly one month on my school campus. Because I interned at the nonprofit organization and worked closely with the Executive Director, who has a lot of experience with resume critiques, I picked up a lot of his tips and tricks. And I thought, “Why not put them to good use?” So I spent a day writing up the ad, printed them, and posted them on every bulletin board I found. Long story short. In one month, the ad pulled in two to three leads per week, and I ended up working with th... (read more)

12. The Story Of My Three Week Old Desire to Be An Improv Performer
June 15, 2020

In summer of 2019, one of my oldest friends and I went on a weekend trip to Chicago. It was pretty interesting considering it was our first time planning a long distance trip together. Although parts of the trip didn’t go as planned, we still had some pretty good experiences. Seeing the beautiful city skyline. Eating their famous deep dish pizza. Visiting their museums. And watching their local improv comedy shows. Fun fact: It was my very first time attending improv comedy shows, and we went to two shows. When I sat through the first one, I was amazed to say the ... (read more)

13. How to Write Copy That's Harder to Kill Than Lord Voldemort
June 14, 2020

As children, you were probably taught the importance of recycling, and how it can help our fellow planet Earth. If you haven’t, you should probably take a few minutes to look it up. Anyways, it’s a beautiful concept. You’re basically making something new out of something that already exists. And there are so many ways to recycle. Some ways are more clever than others. For examples: My brother uses old school textbooks and the thick SAT study guides to uplift for his computer monitor. I think they’ve been put to good use. My mom used a Tostitos salsa dip jar as a vase to gro... (read more)

14. Acting Your Way to Success In Copywriting Without Having to Be As Good As Leonardo DiCaprio
June 14, 2020

Acting. Is. Hard. No, I haven’t been casted in a TV show or movie before, but I have helped a friend out with some short skits. A few months ago, I was involved in one skit where we were making a parody trailer of a movie, and I played a doctor. I didn’t have a lot of lines for this project, but that experience alone was enough to make me realize that acting is not as easy as the professionals make it look. Because it wasn’t too serious of a project, I didn’t have to invest that much time and effort into it. So I didn’t do any of the “backend” work of studying the character like... (read more)

15. Check Out This T-shirt
May 27, 2020

A while ago, I designed myself a t-shirt for fun. It was a white t-shirt with a picture of a suit and blue tie, and on the bottom it said, "Business casual." I thought it was a clever design and wore it to a couple of professional networking events instead of a traditional business attire. When I told some of my friends this, they looked at me like I was stupid. I've gotten some responses from them like: "That's so unprofessional." "People won't take you seriously." "Hahahahahaha." Yeah I got laughed at. But it doesn't matter because I still met some amazing peopl... (read more)

16. An Almost Useless Goldmine of Udemy Courses
May 19, 2020

Over the weekend, I got a chance to catch up with one of my good associates who’s an entrepreneur at heart and a talented musician. The conversation was mainly focused on a big project he was getting ready to launch and how I can help him with the email marketing side of things. Before we ended our conversation, he was kind enough to give me access to his Udemy account where I can watch some of the music production courses he bought. So yesterday night I logged on to his account and was amazed, to say the least. I had instant access to so much knowledge in so many different area... (read more)

17. A Valuable Lesson to Learn From Photography
May 16, 2020

Last year, I took a film photography class. And honestly, it was one of the most fun classes I ever took by far. I loved learning the whole old school photography process. Everything from how to use a film camera, to developing film rolls and printing pictures. Throughout the semester, we would have to take pictures based on a certain theme. After going out and taking pictures, we'd develop the film and print out our top three pictures. At the end of each assignment, we would do a class critique. We'd take our top three pictures, pin them on the board, present them, and get feed... (read more)

18. The Evolution of My Personal Choice of Music
May 16, 2020

I find it interesting that as time goes on, the type of music we listen to changes, at least it happens to me. My first exposure to music was listening to my cousin’s playlist. He mainly had a lot of rock songs from bands like Linkin Park and Green Day. As I got older, I started to follow the mainstream pop music. I listened to artists like Sia, Justin Timberlake, and Maroon 5. Then I traveled back in time to explore the 90s hip hop music from people like Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Tupac, and The Notorious B.I.G. thanks to the influence of my former Burger King crew, but also less vulgar son... 19. The Only Reason Why I Like the US President
May 15, 2020

Sometimes I feel like I'm living in a parallel universe. The things I read on the news nowadays make me think, "Is this a joke?" And those things come from none other than the man who lives in the White House. The man leading the United States in the most unconventional and questionable way. President Donald Trump. Now I know I’m pretty late to this, but he shared an idea to the world about how we can combat the coronavirus. And he said the following during a briefing... “Suppose that we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, s... (read more)

20. So Many Choices, But So Little Time
May 09, 2020

Technology has always been fascinating to me because of how fast it advances throughout time. When it comes to business, it opened up a whole new world of marketing. Back then there weren't as many ways. You had newspaper ads, radio ads, billboards, flyers, and advertising mail. Don't get me wrong. They're effective, but they can suck up your money if you don't know what you're doing, plus not all these methods are easy to track. Nowadays, there are so many more ways you can market your business, and for cheap too. Blogging and SEO Social media marketing Paid adve... (read more)

21. Never Judge a Book By Its Cover, But People Still Do
May 09, 2020

Going back to my 2016 internship at the startup nonprofit. One of the things I learned from working with the Executive Director was the importance of attention to detail. Whenever he interviewed candidates, he would always tell them (and I'm paraphrasing), "...If you have these tiny mistakes on your resume, your prospective employer will think you don't pay enough attention to detail and you're not right for the job. And then what happens? Your resume's in the garbage." Unfortunately, that's human reality. We meet someone, form a first impression within the first seven seconds, and th... (read more)

22. The Only MTA Employee That Doesn't Hate His Job
May 08, 2020

Ah, New York City. Also known as the Big Apple, one of the greatest cities in the United States The city where skyscrapers are so tall you gotta break your neck to look at them. Where the people are notorious for being impatient and disrespectful, although that's nothing but a stereotype. And where the infamous public transportation company, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, resides. Speaking of, usually when I'm on the subway, the conductors always sound like they'd rather be anywhere else but at work. They all sound monotonous and irritated, especially when peopl... 23. How to Bypass Shameful Fake Scarcity Tactics Used By Internet Business Mentors
May 07, 2020

My first introduction to the Internet marketing world was learning about the business model of affiliate marketing. There was this particular mentor that I followed for a while and I was amazed by the lifestyle he was portraying on his YouTube channel. He lived in a penthouse apartment, owned two luxury cars, and pretty much earned money in his sleep. But somewhere in the back of my mind, I felt like it was too good to be true and never bought his $997 digital course that he always advertised. Once in a while I do check in to see what he's up to. Apparently, he launched a more robust... (read more)

24. How I Got Into the Habit of Flossing
May 07, 2020

I'm going to be honest with you. My parents never taught me the importance of flossing. So growing up I thought just brushing my teeth twice a day and not stuffing my face with candy were good enough to keep my teeth healthy. I thought I had nothing to worry about until what happened months ago. It was June of 2019, I was at my dentist's office getting my regular cleaning. After the hygienist finished cleaning my teeth, I thought that was the end of my visit. Suddenly, another worker came into the room and she started talking to the hygienist. The conversation was abnormally lo... (read more)

25. How I Awoken My Inner Mr. Hyde
May 06, 2020

In the past, I talked about the power of scarcity in one of my emails and I wrote this specific line that said.... "If you need to add an urgency factor to your offers, creating scarcity is a great way to do so. But make sure you actually follow through with it." So why should you follow through with your scarcity tactics? In a word: Respect. Allow me to explain further with a story from my day job. For the past year, I've been working with kids at a learning center. I'll admit, when I first started, I was a bit too nice to the kids. I wouldn't yell at them. I wouldn't... (read more)
