251. IUID standards have common purpose
November 15, 2013

NATO’s ability to bring together the military forces of its 28 member countries to achieve a common goal is extremely powerful. There are, of course, a number of challenges when it comes to joining many disparate organizations to work together. One area where this becomes apparent is in the sharing of defense equipment. It can be difficult for just one defense department to keep track of all its assets, which may have lifetimes of decades and are spread among worldwide operations. Loaning the equipment to other organizations adds an additional layer of complexity. Defense departments ... (read more)

252. Make sure your UID labels pass the test
November 15, 2013

Trust but verify. That well-known phrase typically applies to U.S. foreign affairs. But it could also come to mind among defense contractors who are dealing with requirements for Item Unique Identification (IUID) of products they produce for the military. IUID requires contractors to label each piece of equipment they make for the military with a Unique Identifier, or UID, that facilitates tracking of the item throughout its lifetime. The requirement is met by placing a 2-D Data Matrix symbol on the equipment, which contains the identifying information in a specific format. (ID Integratio... (read more)

253. Determining what defense equipment needs a Unique Identifier
November 14, 2013

The first question a defense contractor might ask when it comes to marking equipment produced for the military with a Unique Identifier (UID) is, what items need to be marked? In general, the equipment must be marked if the DoD’s acquisition cost is $5,000 or more for each item. But there are also some cases in which assets costing less than $5,000 must be marked. The product’s buyer will look at the less costly items on a case-by-case basis to determine if they’re mission-essential, controlled inventory items for which life-cycle traceability is essential. Any requirement for UID markin... (read more)

254. RFID Provides Benefits to Numerous Industries
November 14, 2013

Today, there are a wide range of benefits for RFID technology to provide advantages to a large variety of business sectors. For example, imagine the potential benefit of companies using this innovative form of Automated Data Capture in major industry, law enforcement, transportation, among many other uses. This number continues to grow as this technology evolves to become more intelligent, more affordable, and versatile. RFID enables drivers to quickly zip through a toll booth when equipped with a prepaid pass. This works well because one of the primary advantages of RFID, is in the fac... (read more)

255. TegoView streamlines ATA Spec 2000 RFID compliance
November 14, 2013

The Air Transport Association’s Spec 2000 standards call for labeling of aircraft parts so they can be tracked throughout their lifetime. RFID is an increasingly popular method of doing this, as the tags can be read with an automated reader without a direct line of site to the tag. The tags are durable and can withstand a range of environments. In addition, RFID tags are available with different amounts of memory. The high-memory tags in particular are able to contain more information than other types of labels. ATA Spec 2000 contains a number of details that must be followed in using these RF... (read more)

256. Boost your business through government contracts
November 14, 2013

Most businesses would be foolish not to take a look at government contracting as a potential source of revenue. The U.S. federal government spends more than $500 billion per year buying goods and services from outside vendors. Because the government doesn’t produce any products on its own, it turns to the private sector to obtain everything from staplers to multi-million-dollar machinery. One of the first steps for someone interested in doing business with the federal government is to register as a contractor through uscontractorregistration.com. You’ll be required to provide a DUNS numbe... (read more)

257. UID standards delve into all the details
November 14, 2013

Imagine dozens of defense departments trying to determine what military equipment is available to share and where it is located. This is a challenge faced by NATO and its 28 member countries. To address this challenge, NATO has turned to the Unique Identification of Items, or UID, system for labeling and tracking mission-critical equipment. Items are labeled with a 2D Data Matrix symbol that contains a Unique Item Identifier (UII). An automated scanner is used to read the Data Matrix and retrieve an item’s identifier. The UII is entered into a registry, which can contain other critical de... (read more)

258. Letter to Beschloss
November 14, 2013

By Frederick Hoehn, copyright 2012. 09/02/12 Dear Mr. Beschloss: You were on TV today, on C-Span2. During the program, a quotation from one of your books was put on the TV screen in which you referred to Khruschev as the AntiChrist. History books are supposed to be non-fiction, Mr. Beschloss, but that statement is fiction. But you might wish to characterize the statement as a metaphor or other figure of speech, however, a better way to characterize it is bad theology and false doctrine that might lead readers astray theologically, and perhaps help to send some to hell... 259. A Two State Solution for Palestine?
November 14, 2013

by Frederick Hoehn, copyright 2011. Recently at the United Nations, there was a vote about Palestine. The vote was somewhat favorable toward Palestine, while falling short of statehood for Palestine. There are those who advocate a "two state solution" to the Middle East problems. From what I've read, it seems former President, Jimmy Carter, is one of those. This is rather surprising, since it was my understanding that Carter was a Christian. He may actually be a Christian, but perhaps he has allowed his experience as President to color his views about Israel. (“Don’t lea... (read more)

Open Letter to Congressman Rohrabacher by Frederick Hoehn, copyright 2012, all rights reserved 12/29/12 Dear Congressman Rohrabacher: I saw you today on C-SPAN. You were saying that NASA is pushing the envelope and helping us with new technology. You are quite mistaken, Congressman Rohrabacher. I'm a hardware and software Engineer, myself. 261. Bill Nye, Science Guy
November 13, 2013

by Frederick Hoehn, copyright 2012. I saw on the news where Bill Nye, Science Guy has come out against teaching Creationism in our schools. Evidently, Mr. Nye is an Evolutionist. Well, this is the United States, and we have freedom of religion. But those who choose the Theory of Evolution have chosen a false religion. Look up in the sky at night. What keeps all those millions of stars from crashing into each other? There’s a caterpillar that lives in extremely cold parts of the earth where summers are quite short. 262. Balanced Budget Amendment
November 13, 2013

by Frederick Hoehn, copyright 2012. I'm a patriotic American, and have served on active duty in our armed forces, and honorably discharged. There are things wrong with our nation, but that's no reason to turn against it. Where is a nation any better than ours? Balanced Budget Amendment. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? A Senator was talking in favor of that on one of the talk shows. Talk show host Mark Levin said he’s in favor of it. And what would be the purpose of a Balanced Budget Amendment? Well, obviously, to give our nation budgets that are always balanced. Wh... (read more)

263. Letter to Glenn Beck
November 13, 2013

by Frederick Hoehn, copyright 2011. 05/26/11 Dear Glenn: I was listening to your program this morning, and you spoke of "The Righteousness of the Nations." Nice phrase, Glenn. Almost sounds like it might be right out of the Bible. Righteousness is a good aspiration for anyone to have. And God wanted ancient Israel to have it. You are probably a religious man, or you wouldn't be so much in favor of righteousness. But Glenn, you don't get people to join you in fervor for righteousness, unless they have a foundation for righteousness. But you might say that Ameri... (read more)

264. U.S. Ambassador Murdered in Libya
November 13, 2013

U.S. Ambassador Murdered in Libya by Frederick Hoehn, copyright 2012. Currently, an important news story is the murdering of the U.S. Ambassador to Libya. He was murdered with three other Americans in Libya. Are we now reaping the benefits of the "Arab Spring?" It's rather looking like the Arab Spring was not such a wonderful thing. How is Libya a better place now than it was under Khadafy? There are those who said change was needed. But not all change is for the better. Sometimes change is for the worse, as when we got the changes that came by electing Barak Obama. ... (read more)

267. HK Equity Fund Say BoE May Have To Backtrack On Rates
November 12, 2013

HK Equity Fund: Bank of England Governor Mark Carney may have to raise interest rates sooner than expected. According to Hong Kong’s HK Equity Fund, the United Kingdom’s seemingly strengthening economic recovery may force the Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, to begin considering raising interest rates more quickly as unemployment in the country edges closer to a key level he said could warrant such action. Mr Carney told investors in August that unemployment in the UK would need to improve to 7% before the Bank would consider raising rates which have been at an all-time... (read more)

270. Pembaharuan Agraria Itu Penting Kalau Ingin Memperbaiki Nasib Kaum Tani Indonesia
November 08, 2013

November 07, 2013

Why the Boston Marathon Bombing? by Frederick Hoehn, copyright 2013. For a couple of weeks, the news was filled with the Boston Marathon Bombing story. It seemed you couldn't channel surf through the channels without finding someone talking about it. I'm not saying there was too much coverage. AAP lead by Arvind Kejriwal has already finalized 65 candidates out of the 70 constituencies it intends to contest. BJP has finalized the name of Dr. Harsh Vardhan as their CM candidate.
