Hello there and welcome back for another week of random anime, sticking with somewhat of a trend as of late, I am reviewing what appears to be another fantasy anime series. I can't help it, for some reason I am drawn to the genre. The anime we are going to be taking a look at today is Sky Wizards Academy, a seemingly good looking anime that manner have enjoyed; however, I can't say that I am one of those members. While I will agree that the animation used in the show is nice, the show itself has many other flaws that I simply couldn't overlook to enjoy the series. The main character, and his sarcastic wit, is the only thing that kept me into the anime series for as long as I was. Now, before we go any further, what is Sky Wizards Academy even about? Sky Wizards Academy, as said before, is a fantasy anime series. It takes place in a world where humans have been overrun by a robotic looking insects. These insects pushed humanity to the brink, so humanity fled to the skies. Humans now reside, and live, in floating cities, far away from the danger of the ground; however, that does not mean the onslaught has stopped. The insects are still attacking, but humanity has finally come up with a countermeasure: Wizards. Wizards are special humans, trained in combat, whose job is to protect the city. They are very powerful, and use powerful weapons to aid them in their defense of the city. That being said, they still lose, in fact, quite often. The pure number of insects is what the problem is, and quality doesn't always win over quantity. Another interesting fact about Wizards is if they are cut down by an insect, all of the people in the city who aren't wizards, called Normals, forget their very existence. There is no rhyme or reason for this, but Normals won't even remember a wizard existed if they are killed, even if the wizard was family. We follow a young man by the name of Kanata Age; he was once one of the most powerful and respected wizards at the academy. He was part of the strongest group, and participated in a deadly fire team. However, after the results of a certain battle that is still unknown, he is branded as a traitor and a coward. Quite frankly, he doesn't care. He spends most of his days now helping out logistics which, to them, coward or not, he is a marvel in the way he helps. One day he is called to the academy by an old friend, and told that he is to be the instructor of a fire team, but not just any fire team; the worse fire team in the academy. These three girls are on the brink of being kicked out of the academy, and Kanata is the only way they are going to fulfill their desires to become powerful. So where to start? Well, as I said before, the anime is visually appealing. It's nothing particularly special, but it's not bad to look at. The only other plus I can give it is the main character, Kanata. His personality is very well done and I thoroughly enjoy his dialogue. He is not exactly overpowered, but he packs an epic punch. To go along with it, his not a care in the world attitude is something to marvel at. For instance, even when he is the one that saves the city, and everyone refuses to give him credit for it, he doesn't care. He is humble, and doesn't expect an award for doing something to save lives. He is a good person, character, and funny as all get out. Everything else about this anime is what got to me. Lets start with the fire team he is training, it consists of three girls: Misora, Lecty, and Rico. They are stunningly awful, and have no concept of what strategy is. Even after many episodes of "training," they seem to have no progression at all. It is frustrating to see something like this, as the characters themselves seem to not be progressing. Not to mention they are highly annoying. Beyond that, the overall plot was just not very formed out. It's a great plot, something that could of been run out as very epic, but the progression and way things were done just seemed very vague. I didn't get attached to the characters, I didn't see any progression going on, and it frustrated me. It was either another day of boring training and less pleasing dialogue, or a sudden attack that didn't explain anything at all. Not to mention a serial killer that was supposed to be a "mystery" but you could see it a mile away, then you are left wondering how in the world the characters had no idea. Furthermore, this "killer" takes out supposedly highly skilled wizards with ease, which really makes me mad. That brings me to the next concept, the combat is awful! It's not action packed at all, and is not smooth. Whenever you watch an entire action scene, which is 90% talking and 10% action, you don't get pumped are drawn in. You just sit there, waiting for it to be over. As a whole, I wouldn't really recommend this anime to anyone simply because there are better ones out there. Sure the main character is awesome, and some people actually enjoyed it. I just feel there are plenty of shows out there that take a similar fantasy concept and do it much better.
