Romantic comedy anime series have a general plot line that they follow. Normally, you pretty much know exactly who is going to end up with who after watching an episode or two. Unfortunately, this is true for Toradora as well. While it sprung away from some of the cliche romantic comedy settings, it ultimately made it's way back in the end by having the main characters get together. Along the way, we went on a journey with our two main characters that was quite interesting. Unlike other shows of this type, the two started off as friends, and were actually trying to help each other get with other people. The funny thing is is that the people they were crushing on were actually crushing right back, though that didn't matter in the end. So what about this anime makes it different from the pack? As I said before, I enjoyed the initial concept of the show. When Taiga and Ryuuji first meet (main characters) they are simply acquaintances that turn into friends. They are both crushing hard on different people, in fact they were crushing on each other's best friend. So, in light of the situation, they both decide to do their best to help each other out. I loved this concept. Every romantic comedy, slice of life, anime show out there has the two main characters get together, so I thought this one might be different. Honestly, even after it was all said and done, I still stand by my view that Taiga and Ryuuji make better friends than lovers, but still. So, in the beginning, I was excited. Maybe, just maybe, this one would be different. Of course, as the story went on, my hopes were crushed. Though they themselves couldn't see it, the story was obviously pushing them together, making them more and more reliant on each other. Even the not so important classmate characters pointed this out later in the series, further solidifying the fact that they were going to end up together. I'll give them credit though, they fought it, pretty darn hard, especially Taiga. What makes it so difficult to accept them getting together is the fact that the two people they were crushing on were such awesome characters. If they got with who they were originally crushing on, I would've been more satisfied. The crushes had way more compatibility with those of the main characters. In the end, it turned out being more of a typical slice of life anime than I anticipated, but still worth the watch. The ending of the series was certainly rushed; they could've easily gotten two more episodes out of the ending, but instead they rushed it all into one. I would for sure recommend watching this anime show in dub, as it was very well done.
