1. 3 among the Greatest Recommendations from Arnold Palmer
March 06, 2015

Every now and then if I'm in search of varying approaches to improve my golf swing, it's best to revisit the original professionals who played the game many years ago. I've written of late regarding many of the things Ben Hogan taught, and these continue to have a lot of bearing on how the golf swing sequence should be constructed, particularly with recreational players. Some of the works by Arnold Palmer in years ago you can still find make a great deal of wisdom and here I would like to articulate a handful of those. Palmer definitely makes the point that the swing action nowadays has g... (read more)

2. Where the Wrists must be found during Shot Strike
February 25, 2015

Ben Hogan, the fantastic golf player from the 1940s and 1950s became a perceptive student of the golf game. Since he worked so hard developing his personal expertise he was able to reveal a lot of the swing tactics we make use of these days. One of these though isn't grasped by many mid to high handicap players. That's the location with the hands and wrists at the moment of ball contact, which is a major reason exactly why nearly all amateur players reduce a significant portion of the yardage they might have. The one thing most pros and low golf handicap players can do to generate this ex... (read more)

There have been several very good golfers, or for that matter great sports athletes who've been at the top of their sport and thought to be one of the best in their game. Nevertheless for all of their ability they have difficulties translating that success into a form that a novice in their niche may comprehend. That great golfer from the mid-20th century Ben Hogan seemed to be different. Once considered the apex, if you will, of the Ben Hogan brand, Apex forged irons disappeared from the market years ago. But Callaway retained the Apex name when it sold Hogan to Perry Ellis in 2012, and now it’s ready to roll out the next generation of these vaunted blades. 7. Who says you can't hit it far and straight?
June 18, 2014

Long hitters transfer energy from their body to the clubhead in the proper sequence of actions. Short hitters move all the same body parts, but in the wrong order. Good downswings unwind from the ground up, through your body: hips, shoulders, arms, hands and then finally the clubhead. Ben Hogan referred to this sequence as a chain reaction that multiplies your clubhead speed so it’s moving the fastest at the last possible moment. Notice here how my hips already are starting to unwind, my shoulders still are turned back, and the clubhead remains where it was at the “top”... (read more)

It was somehow appropriate that Tseng won by playing ping g20 driver at Carnoustie because the legend of Ben Hogan hovers over that venue and the players have two things in common (in addition to multiple major victories): the first is supreme ball-striking skills and the se...
