126. Training to be a Plasterer
March 30, 2021

Plastering is considered one of the oldest trades in the building profession. Plastering is, in a nutshell, putting plaster on walls and ceilings, using materials that form both a sound- and fire-proof service. Plastering also consists of using plaster veneer over drywall to make a textured finish, and installing prefabricated insulation systems and cast ornaments. There are several types of plastering; notable types include dry lining, wherein a lining is applied to an interior wall that does not need to be plastered; and fibrous, wherein the material used will be fibrous, composed of plaster... 127. Prepping plaster on walls
March 30, 2021

Preparing Walls for Plaster Installing rock lath, the base to which wall plaster is applied, is not a difficult job and requires only a few tools. If you can swing a hammer or cut wire with tin snips or read a carpenter's level, you can do your own lathing. For speed and convenience, invest in a lathing hatchet. If you prefer to use your own hammer, you'll have to score and cut the lath with a knife, which takes longer. First calculate the square yardage on all surfaces to be covered and order lath accordingly. Buy metal corner stripping by the linear foot for openings and corners. T... (read more)

128. Venetian plastering
March 30, 2021

Modern plasters have evolved quite significantly over the past 50 years, changing from sand, cement and lime based to the more lightweight gypsum based. There is also the introduction of "Marble Plaster" which is coloured and has the look and feel of marble. V/P is a collective name for a groups of plaster finishes created in Venice in the 1500's. Architects and builders had to find a lightweight alternative to marble to stop buildings ... (read more)

129. Why I don't bother with reality competition shows
March 29, 2021

Personally, I was never too interested in investing a lot of attention into watching those reality competition shows. That includes dance competitions, singing competitions, heck, even award shows. It’s not even because the winners of these shows may possibly be preselected. Even if that was true, the other reason is that all the winners in these competitions are chosen based on opinion. Choosing who the best singer is, the best dancer, best actor, best films. All those are based on people’s opinions. But it’s a whole different story when it comes to sports competition... 131. A client story
March 26, 2021

Here’s a little inside look into one of my client projects. There’s a founder of a Texas-based startup marketing agency who wanted to work with me. He didn’t need help with any email copywriting though. Instead, he needed someone to help him write up some case studies of some projects he did with his clients. I told him upfront that writing case studies is not something I’m familiar with, but that didn’t change his mind about working with me. Awesome. Fast forward a few days, we had our first call to talk about how we were going to tackle the case studies. The age... (read more)

Have you ever stopped to consider just how much of a difference the outdoor lighting makes? 143. Why do people still design emails with HMTL & CSS?
March 24, 2021

There’s a lot of things I don’t understand about this world. One of the most mind-boggling things is the fact that us humans love to complicate things. Apparently there’s a psychological reason behind why we prefer complex over simple. We think that the simple ways to solve a problem just won’t work. I’ll give a perfect example. I had a discussion with a strategist from a New Jersey based marketing agency. At one point during our conversation, I pointed out how weird it is to still see companies create their email newsletters from scratch using HTML and CSS. Even ... (read more)
