Cleaning Your Oriental Rug


These rugs originated from countries like India, Iran, and China.  They are known for their unique designs and rich colors.  They can be found in many households across the world.  They also come in a variety of shapes and are generally made from cotton or wool.  Some may even be made from synthetic material or silk.  As with all rugs, they are prone to getting dirty so they need to be cleaned.  If you use the right techniques for your oriental rug cleaning Toronto, you can keep your rug looking new.

Before you clean your oriental rug, check the label.  Generally, it can be found on one of the corners of the rub.  It will have instructions on how to clean the rug safely.  Since it can be made from a variety of materials, you need to remember that each one requires different cleaning instructions.  The oriental rugs made of wool or cotton is the easiest to clean and is more durable.  If your oriental rug is made of silk you should consider taking it to a professional to have it cleaned, especially if there are bad stains.

You should vacuum the rug at once a week to get any dirt and debris from it so it will look and smell new.  If it is made of wool, vacuuming it will keep the fibers from becoming packed down.  If your oriental rugs are made of silk or are antiques, you should not vacuum them frequently as it can reduce their value.  To keep your rug from being sun-damaged, keep it out of direct sunlight.  If it is kept in the sun, over time the colors will fade.  Rotate it at least once a month if you need to have it in direct sunlight.  The colors will still fade but do it evenly.
