A DIVORCED dad of two threatened to kidnap society heiress Tamara Ecclestone unless he was paid £900,000, a court heard. Martin Peckham, 41, is accused of demanding the money from her Formula 1 tycoon father Bernie during a series of phone calls. Prosecutor Philip Lemoine said: “This was a crudely-executed, perhaps not frivolous but rather amateurish, attempt to obtain money from Mr Ecclestone. "Amateurish it might have been, but it was a targeted offence. The family is vulnerable and Mr Ecclestone took it seriously.” Mr Lemoine added: "The impact on Tamara Ecclestone as a human being has been significant in her home and working life.” No money was handed over, District Judge Justin Barron was told. Denture technician Peckham, dressed in khaki shorts and a black polo shirt, spoke only to confirm his identity during the hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

He was bailed to appear at South London’s Southwark Crown Court on Friday to face a blackmail charge.
Under his bail terms he must observe a night-time curfew at his home in Colchester, Essex. He is forbidden to contact the Ecclestone family. Judge Barron told him: “If you do attempt to contact them in any way — directly or through another person, by email or phoning them up — you’ll be in breach of your bail and be brought back to custody.” It is the second alleged blackmail plot involving Tamara, 27. Two men are currently awaiting trial on unrelated charges of trying to extort £200,000 from the Ecclestones by threatening to make public details of Tamara’s love life. Derek Rose, 32 and Jakir Uddin, 19, both deny blackmail. Bernie Ecclestone is estimated to be worth £2.5billion.
