Why does a person write nonsensical comments on facebook? I'm not referring to jokes, sarcasm, or silliness. I'm referring to people writing statements reflecting complete hypocrisy, even stupidity in many cases. I read a post this morning. A minister was letting everyone know they "should not read any self help materials other than the King James Bible". There are a bunch of points I'd like to make about that closed-minded notion. As an aspiring writer, I am passionate about the freedom to express thought in words, both written and spoken, and I am cognisant of the necessity of information dispersion. I need to point out that I totally agree the Bible is a guide book in making God our first love. The Bible is God's word to mankind and is the authority in our Christian faith. "In the beginning was the word.." However, I ask each one reading this to go way back in time to when you were 6 years old. Back then, did your ability to put English vowels and consonants into logical thought come from studying the Bible? Did your critical thinking skills derive from reading the Bible? Once you became a teen, did the Bible teach you how to pass your driving exam or teach you the policies at your first job? We learn to function through self helping tools called books. Imagine if reading was a natural function like breathing. Would you be able to understand the Geographic references in the Bible, the idea of multiplication, or cultural references? Of course not, we have to understand that individuals get new, revolutionary ideas, useful to our growth, which can be practically applied to Biblical ways of life. If someone truly believes that the KJV Bible is the only instruction of value, that person should speak only Bible verses, no expanding, no explaining, no relating, no interpretive thought, no quoting others, and no posting thoughts on facebook, and certainly no reading online articles or posts. Perhaps the root issue is that a spirit of pride or envy can eventually close a person's ears and eventually mute their voice. Successful workers have better methods than the unproductive, so it pays to pay attention when the over achiever wants to give some tips. Don't despise a brother for teaching. Learn to discern each truthful piece in their expression, through your conscience, spiritual discernment, through history, through experience, and primarily through Bible. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, RIGHTLY dividing the word of truth (2 Tim 2:15)." God bless you today as you learn new processes. James Foster 2016
