Over time, a garage door can become dented or damaged and just look old. This can detract from the overall look of a home. Fortunately, most garage doors come in panels that can be replaced individually or as a whole door. These four steps can help make it easier to handle parts like Clopay garage door replacement panels. Determine the Damage The first step is to determine what extent the damage is and if the whole door needs to be replaced or just a panel. If just one panel is damaged, it is best to use the same manufacturer so the patterns on the door match. Even if the new panels are the same size, different manufacturers can put seams and decorative features in different alignments. Most local hardware chains will be able to order the correct panels and have them delivered directly to the customer. Remove the Old Before installing the new panel or door, the old one needs to be removed. The opener should be disconnected from the door so the door can move freely in the track. Once the opener is disconnected, the door needs to be separated from the spring. There are cables on each side of the door that run from the bottom to the spring. Finally, the panels can be safely separated from each other and from the wheels on the sides. Install the New Once the old or damaged panels have been removed, the new ones can be installed. The installation process is simply the reverse of the door removal. The panels are stacked up and reattached to the wheels on the sides. Then, each panel is reattached to the others. Finally, the whole door is hooked back up to the spring and then the opener. New Finish The final step is to create a uniform finish. The entire door should be washed and allowed to dry. It can then be repainted with the same color or given a whole new look with a different color. Care should be taken along the edges and between panels to prevent the paint from sealing them and cracking when it dries. Dealing with things like Clopay garage door replacement panels can seem overwhelming, but the panels are essentially building blocks that can be replaced in 4 easy steps.
