101. My Latest Obsession
October 13, 2020

One of my friends recently introduced me to the world of custom keyboards. I briefly heard about it once before, but didn’t really bother with it. But when I took some time exploring it, I started to realize why people are obsessed with it and why the custom keyboard community is growing so big. If you don’t know already, I’m somewhat of a geek when it comes to computers, so that’s one of the reasons why this is so interesting to me. If you’re the same and you haven’t explored this world yet, I suggest you do after reading this. You won’t regret it. But moving on. ... (read more)

102. Setting the green grinch authors' senses straight
October 12, 2020

I was curious one day and did some pleasure research about the publishing industry. One of the more topics that I read about is how a book becomes a bestseller, specifically the New York Times Bestseller, which is the most prestigious bestseller title out of the rest. Unfortunately, there isn’t a straight answer to that. There’s more to it than just selling a lot of copies. However, I did find out the average age of male and female authors that they publish their first bestseller. And the answer is around 48. I was surprised, but not at the same time. Writing, lik... 103. My Favorite Conspiracy Theories
October 09, 2020

Back when I was a little kid, I always found it entertaining to listen to crazy conspiracy theories. One of the most memorable ones I learned was the hidden 9/11 pictures that appear when you fold the US 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dollar bills a certain way. I even remember where I was when I learned this. I was at a Pizza Hut. Even now, I like to read about them during my days off. Some of my favorites ones are: Dinosaurs never existed. The government buried fake bones to make it seem like they did. Hitler is still alive. He just lives on the moon now. Politicians are act... (read more)

104. A World Where Social Media Becomes a Part of Real Life
October 08, 2020

It’s been a long while since I watched this one particular show. Black Mirror If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a science fiction show where it shows the dark sides of new technology. Most of the episodes are dark, depressing, sometimes graphic. Rarely do they have light-hearted episodes. But what impresses me the most about this show is the unexpected plot twists. But I’m not going to talk about that. Today, I want to talk about a specific episode that’s also one of my favorites. Nosedive. If you haven’t seen this episode yet, there are most likely going to ... (read more)

105. Skydiver Recording His Potential Death?
October 07, 2020

The Internet has boggled my mind once again. A new friend of mine found an interesting video while she was browsing through social media and forwarded it to me. The video was a skydiver who was recording himself falling from the sky and his parachute not opening. The video ended after he gave the parachute the finger. This was all happening while the song “Bad Day” by Daniel Powter. Is he alive? That’s the exact same question that thousands of other viewers asked too. We’ll find out soon enough. But I’m sure he has a backup parachute, so I’m optimistic about his situat... (read more)

106. The Mystery of Why People Love to Complicate Everything
October 06, 2020

For some reason, us people just love to make things more complicated than it has to be. I can give so many different examples, but here are a few that I can name off the top of my head. Drama. More often than not, I see some of my friends who are prone to getting themselves into dramas, get into these situations where the solution is so simple, but they make the problem sound more complicated than it actually is. Our education. To be more specific, the notorious common core standards. I didn’t think it was possible to take something so fundamental like addition, subtraction, mul... (read more)

107. Trump's Secret Marketing Weapon to Get ‘UGE Engagement
October 05, 2020

I don’t like talking to people. Hmm…maybe that sounds a bit harsh. Let me put it in another way. I’d much rather prefer to talk less and listen to people talk instead. Although that may have slowed down the development of my social skills during the early parts of my life, I still learned quite a bit. And the things I learned can easily be applied to email copywriting and will make your emails highly engaging. And when there’s high engagement, that leads to more sales. One of the ways I talk about is constantly used by none other than our beloved 45th president of the ... (read more)

108. Putting an E-commerce Email Under the Mini-critique Spotlight
September 29, 2020

I received an email today. It was a newsletter from an e-commerce company I started following long ago, mainly because I know the owner. When I opened it, I can confidently say that this is one of those blatant sales pitch emails. It has the typical phrases you see in those kinds of emails. You know, phrases like: “Don’t miss out,” “__% off,” Or “Limited Time Only.” So why is this wrong? Well for starters, those emails can easily get caught by the spam filters. And B, there is nothing in that email that builds the relationship between the busin... (read more)

109. The Grim Truth of American Healthcare That Nobody Wants to Think About
September 24, 2020

I’ve always known that the cost of healthcare in the U.S. was very expensive. But I never put it into perspective until I watched a video where someone walks around the streets of the U.K. and asks people to guess the cost of healthcare in the U.S. Here are some of the questions the interviewer asked. Cost of two epipens? U.K. resident’s guess: $80. Actual cost: $600 Cost of childbirth? U.K. resident’s guess: $100 - $200 Actual cost: On average $10,000 Speaking of childbirth, women who give birth through C-section are charged if they want to hold th... (read more)

110. George Foreman's Secret to Channeling Demand By Will
September 21, 2020

Over the weekend, I decided to go back in time and watch some old, short infomercials for fun. I especially revisited the ones I remembered watching in the past. Some of them include: Billy Mays on Oxiclean Vince Shlomi on Shamwow The press2paste commercial But the most interesting one I came across was the 1996 George Foreman's Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine Infomercial. And the product does exactly what it sounds like, cooks food while draining their fat. That particular infomercial was one of the longer ones, about 30 minutes. I’ll be honest. Afte... (read more)

111. My Biking Skill Level: 4/10
September 20, 2020

It has been over 10 years since I put my hands on a bike. Part of the reason why is that I live in New York City. Their public transportation makes it possible for me to go anywhere without a bike nor a car. The other part is that I always preferred either using a scooter or walking with my two feet. But if you asked me if I know how to ride a bike, my answer would be, “Maybe….Yes and no.” Let me explain. When I was first learning, I had trouble getting the initial pedaling down. Otherwise, when I’m in motion, it’s pretty easy. But now that I’m a bit taller than I... (read more)

112. Let's Rap About Politics
September 16, 2020

Ah, politics. Something that I feel has been getting so much more attention now more than how it used to years ago, especially since Trump took over the White House. It’s everywhere now. Everything you do and say can (and probably will) be politicized when you talk to the right group of people. Something as simple as wearing masks has been politicized. The Black Lives Matter movement. Climate change. Each party has their own agenda with its own list of pros and cons. No matter which side you choose, there’s always going to be one part of the population t... (read more)

113. This is How You Don't Wiggle Your Way Out of a Speeding Ticket
September 15, 2020

Once in a while, I like to go to an entertaining website called fmylife.com. It’s where people can anonymously submit short stories of unfortunate events that happened in their lives. Some more disastrous than others. For example, here’s a story I found pretty funny. ---------- Today, I got pulled over for speeding. Knowing how much more it would cost in the long run, I handed the officer my license with $300 in cash, "as something to consider for just a warning." He came back with a ticket and verbally warned me that police bribery is a felony. He kept the money. FML ... (read more)

114. A Clever Blackhat Resume Tactic
September 14, 2020

Apparently, there’s a new way employers review resumes of new candidates that I was never aware of until now. What they do is they feed the resumes through a scanner to look for certain keywords. If they’re there, then the candidates will be granted an interview. I never liked the idea of a machine taking over a human job. It’s not called “Human” Resources for no reason. So one day, one of my friends taught me something to trick the scanners into qualifying you for an interview even if you’re not qualified at all. Basically what you do is insert the necessary keywords on your re... (read more)

115. Education and Pirated DVDs
September 11, 2020

I recently finished reading a book called, How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia by Mohsin Hamid. It’s about the journey of a boy, named “the protagonist” or “you,” from his childhood to his deathbed. He was raised in a village by his mother and father, both of whom died relatively early on in his life. This caused him to pursue entrepreneurship and built his own successful bottled water business. At some point in his life, he met a woman simply named “the pretty girl.” When they first met each other, the pretty girl asked the protagonist if he knew anything about movies. W... (read more)

116. My Personal Definition of Happiness
September 10, 2020

Last night, I was on a voice call with three of my friends. Somehow our conversations transitioned from videogames to asking each other deep questions. One of the questions we asked each other was, “What is your definition of happiness?” When it was my turn, I thought for a few moments and said, “Any good moment you experience that makes you temporarily forget about everything else happening in your life.” And I truly believe that statement. Speaking from personal experience, whether I’m doing anything like spending time with family and friends, working on my hobb... (read more)

117. Every Introvert's Wet Dream Job
August 28, 2020

I was recently in a recording session for another podcast interview and the host asked me an interesting question, “Do you think email is great for introverts? If so, why?” My answer? Of course! Being an introvert myself, I love me some alone time. I love it so much that sometimes I would go through an entire day without talking to a single soul. Or when I schedule meetings with people, I’d be excited about it for the first few minutes. One or two hours later I’d think to myself, “$#!t, I gotta talk to someone in the future,” and have a slight desire to cancel. ... (read more)

118. The #1 Reason Most People Buy Something Is Because....
August 27, 2020

When I was a child, I used to love reading mystery books. Specifically, the A to Z Mysteries books by Ron Roy. Like the alphabet, there were 26 titles. One title for each letter. I never got to read all 26 titles, I only read the ones that were available in my classroom. I remember hearing some books were missing because students took them home and never brought them back. Anyways, I really enjoyed reading those books, so much so that I would reread them multiple times. If I had to give one reason why I enjoyed them, it’s most likely because they’re packed with curiosity an... (read more)

119. The Great False Bachelor's Degree Life Hack
August 22, 2020

One of my friends recently told me a (most likely false) fact about colleges and universities. If you attend a four year college or university and the campus gets destroyed, you automatically earn your bachelor’s degree. “What a great life hack,” I initially thought. Turns out, it’s not true at all. I wasn’t surprised when I found out either. It sounds too far-fetched. But just imagine how funny it’d be to hear people boast, “Yeah, I got my bachelor’s degree in just one semester.” Unfortunately, life is not like that. There are no shortcuts. Just like ho... 120. Some Honorable Mentions of My Exiled Email Readers
August 21, 2020

One day I was giving my email list a little checkup to see how you and the rest of my readers were doing, and I saw a couple of eye-catching things. Some people who opted into my email list never read a single email I sent other than the one that has the link to my lead magnet, the sample chapters of How to Become an Email Titan. I immediately booted them out because they just wanted the free information hoping they’d learn a new secret tip or something. Other people left because they complained about getting too many emails from me. I couldn’t wrap my head around that because both m... (read more)

122. Going Back to the Days of My Rubik's Cube Obsession
August 18, 2020

Back in middle school, I was known as the Rubik’s cube nerd, and rightfully so because my classmates would see me with that toy in my hand every single day. Ever since the day I saw one of my friends play with the cube, I’ve been obsessed with figuring out how to solve it and how to solve it as fast as possible. One minute and two seconds was my fastest record. Even my teachers were so impressed that they didn’t even bother confiscating it. I guess they were so used to seeing me with it, they saw it as an extension of my hand. To this day, I still remember how to solve it. ... (read more)

123. Why I Think Art Classes Shouldn't Belong In Academic Schools
August 17, 2020

Personally, I don’t think art classes should be actual classes in school. And I say that for one reason only. Art is completely subjective. Whatever you create, there are always going to be people who like it and people who are going to hate it. That’s why I think the idea of having one person looking at someone’s work and grading it doesn’t sit right with me. I remember back in high school, I was watching an art teacher grade some of her students’ drawings. She picked up a student’s artwork, looked at them for a few minutes and wrote their final grades on the back. T... (read more)

124. Let's Get Down to Memes
August 14, 2020

You know what I find crazy? This has to do with the startup skincare company I consulted for. My colleague found out from his girlfriend, who apparently works with the company, that they pay people around $1,000 to brainstorm memes for their social media channels. At first, when I heard that, I thought that was one ridiculous way to spend $1,000. But now that I think about it, it’s not so different from writers getting paid to write jokes for a TV show. It takes a lot of creativity to think of new jokes, you know? And looking at their Instagram page, their memes aren’t... (read more)

125. How to Train Your Brain to Generate Endless Ideas For Writing Engaging Sales Emails
August 10, 2020

A couple of weeks ago, one of my readers, Al, sent me a message on Facebook and he said this. ————— I was wondering - How exactly do you generate the amount of content necessary to email your list every day? It's impressive, and I find your writing to be engaging and interesting. ————— It does seem impressive, doesn’t it? I thought the exact same thing back when I used to email weekly and observed how the daily emailers I follow do it. I thought they had superbrains and were content creation machines. But when I started doing it myself, it wasn’t as difficult as I tho... (read more)
