126. I Wonder If This Is Healthy For Me
August 09, 2020

I have an unimportant confession to make. Over the past four months, I’ve developed a possibility concerning obsession with sriracha sauce. I used to stay away from spicy food most of the time and would only eat them once every few weeks. But now I put the sauce on almost every meal I eat every single day. Not only that, but the amount of sauce I put on my food has been increasing at an alarming rate as each day passes. For example: Every morning I make the same breakfast, an egg sandwich, and sometimes I add some cheese, avocado, ham, or turkey. A few months ago,... (read more)

127. What I Learned From Writing Cold Emails
August 07, 2020

A couple of days ago, I talked about how I helped a business owner write a series of cold emails to help generate leads for a new service he was providing for real estate brokers. Now I usually don’t write cold emails, for other people nor for myself. But I thought this might be a good learning experience for myself. Plus it’s not like the person I’m working with was paying me. We established a profit-sharing deal instead, so we both had to make sure the emails were good quality otherwise we both weren’t going to get paid. After writing 14 or so emails, here are a couple of thin... (read more)

128. McDonald's Failed Willy Wonka-like Food Invention
August 06, 2020

Here’s an interesting fact I recently learned: Once upon a time, McDonald’s invented bubblegum-flavored broccoli. What was McDonald’s CEO thinking, that he was going to become the next Willy Wonka? Apparently, he was hoping this could be a way to get children to eat healthier. How ironic. Obviously, the idea backfired because it’s not something you see on their menu today, plus the kids who taste tested the far-from-natural broccoli were more confused than impressed. Instead, they decided to change the way they serve their happy meals by reducing the amount of french f... (read more)

129. The Two Different Types of Public Transportation Passengers
August 05, 2020

If you live in New York City and ride the notorious subway, you’ll most likely relate to what I’m about to say. If you live elsewhere and there’s a public transportation train system that you regularly take (or used to take), you can probably relate too. I was born and raised in New York City my entire life and I’ve been using their public transportation system since I was a child. I particularly enjoyed riding the subway. I can’t put my finger on it, but it was something about trains that really fascinated me. But do you know what really fascinates me to this day? The peop... (read more)

130. He Needed His Fruits
July 23, 2020

When I started studying the art of copywriting, one of the first readings I was recommended was Gary Halbert's Boron Letters. These were daily letters he wrote to his son while he was in prison. He mainly talked to him about health and business, specifically direct marketing. In one of the chapters, he was talking about how his family gave him a surprise visit on his birthday and brought him a cake. But as much as he wanted to spend time with his family, he had to leave before a certain time so he can get his week's supply of fruit and spend more time with his best prison friend befo... 132. An Email Copywriting Lesson From a Chess Nerd
July 19, 2020

Although I sometimes am impatient to sit through the entire game, chess is one board game that I really enjoy playing. Chess has been in my life for as long as I can remember. My parents bought my first plastic chess set when I was seven years old. And according to my elementary school yearbook, I joined the chess club. To be completely honest, I don’t remember doing such a thing at all. Anyways, once in a while I play with one of my friends who’s a huge chess nerd. I remember this one day I was playing chess with him. I was moving my pieces in, according to him, an unconve... (read more)

133. "How Does That Make You Feel?"
July 14, 2020

“How does that make you feel?” Said my friend (We’ll call him John) when he was doing an improvised, non-official therapy session with my other friend (We’ll call him Ruben) a few days ago. Without going into too much detail, they were discussing Ruben’s recent end to his romantic relationship. I was doing nothing more than just observing and showing moral support. Listening to how John handled the conversation, and he asked a lot of questions. “How do you feel about that?” Why do you think this happened?” “Do you think you made the right decision?” That’s al... 134. Top 5 Books to Fulfill Your Bottomless Marketing Desires
July 13, 2020

Today I want to share with you my top five books that I’ve read and I think will help you better your business marketing. Without further ado, here they are: (1) How to Write Copy That Sells by Ray Edwards This is the very first copywriting book I picked up. I remember finding this book while I was browsing through the business section of Barnes & Nobles. It’s a great book for you if you want to learn the fundamentals of copywriting. In my opinion, the biggest value you’ll get out of this book is learning how to write a high converting sales letter. Ray Edwards gives you a simple fr... (read more)

135. Bring Fun, and Put an End to the Pandemic Staleness
July 11, 2020

Yesterday, my brother was on a group call and talking to his friends about how quarantine has been affecting the lives of people socially. The conversation went something like this: When people are isolated for so long, they become less social. Conversations also become stale since there’s not a lot of variety happening on the day-to-day basis. I’m not sure how much of that is true for you, but it’s true for some parts of my daily life. Admittedly, sometimes I choose to ignore my friends’ messages and reply back hours later, sometimes even the next day. Then again, I was li... (read more)

136. Looking Down on Shortcut and Ninja Secret Hunters
July 10, 2020

There’s a particular ad that’s been following me around wherever I go on the Internet. This ad promotes a product where you get two years worth of fill-in-the-blank email templates, assuming you email once a week because there are a little over 100 emails. Being an email guy, I couldn’t resist checking out the sales page and saw a preview screenshot of what the templates looked like. There were also some Facebook comments where people said they bought the $37 product and couldn’t wait to put them to use. Well, for the people who bought it, if I wanted to take my time to message... (read more)

137. Long or short?
July 08, 2020

Today, I came across someone online who asked this question, ---------- Long or short copy? And why? We can see nowadays some ads with 20 pages, and some with 3 pages only. Is there a rule to follow or it doesn’t matter? ---------- The short answer: In my opinion, it doesn’t matter. The not-so-short answer: I’ve seen ads at many different lengths. Some are 20 pages, some are as many as 80 pages long. It doesn’t matter as long as you’ve included everything you wanted to mention. You know, if there’s one thing I learned from running my old blog a... (read more)

138. Why Studying More is Counterproductive
July 07, 2020

Aside from videogames, one of the other things I like to do during my free time is to practice music production. Ever since I got into it, I never listened to music the same again. Now I listen to every song with a more analytical ear. I pay attention to the different sounds, how they’re used, and how they work together with the rest of the sounds and instruments. And being the newbie that I was, and still sort of am to this day, I was constantly on the hunt for new sound effects, new instruments, new softwares, new this, new that. I’ll admit I went a bit too far. I spent a lot ... (read more)

139. Falling In Love With Fictional Characters
July 07, 2020

Yesterday, I finished rewatching one of my favorite childhood animated shows, Avatar: The Last Airbender The show was heavily inspired by East Asian culture, specifically their arts, mythology, philosophy, religion, architecture, and music. After finishing the show, I have to give props to the writers for their fantastic world building skills. But in my opinion, they did an even better job of creating characters that are so lovable mainly because they showed every side of them. Their good side and bad side. Their sense of humor. Their quirks. Even their ... (read more)

140. Earning Money While Being At War With Extraterrestrial Beings
July 07, 2020

I read an article about McDonald’s and how they’ve been navigating through COVID. Because of the spike in new cases, McDonald’s has to delay reopening their restaurants for another three weeks. How well are they going to be off? My guess is, they’re going to do relatively fine. Why? They have the ability to be flexible and adaptive, specifically with their drive-thru and delivery service. With those two, they can still serve their customers without putting anyone’s health in danger (except maybe their workers). Unlike smaller restaurants that can’t provide either of th... (read more)

141. The Irony of Independence Day
July 04, 2020

Today is Independence Day. The day where Americans celebrate the moment the Founding Fathers decided to sever their connection with Great Britain. To go a little deeper: The day the colonies, soon-to-be known as America, becomes its own country without anyone telling them what to do. They think the way they want. They work the way they want. They run things the way they want. They live however they want. That’s independence in its purest form. Unfortunately, that’s not something you see in a lot of people nowadays. When it comes to thinking, a lot o... (read more)

142. A Small Glimpse of How Powerful Copywriting Can Be
July 02, 2020

There’s a good man named Neville Medhora and once upon a time, he owned an e-commerce site called HouseOfRave where he sold party items like glow-in-the-dark sticks and disco balls. It was a pretty successful business considering he made enough money to pay his bills, save a decent amount of money, and still have extra left over to buy whatever he wanted. Did I mention he also had a nice fat email list of over 7,000 buyers that he would never email? His friend, while shaking his head in disappointment, told Neville that he should start sending promotional emails, otherwise he’s ... (read more)

143. Let Me Take You Back to My Humble Beginnings
July 02, 2020

In June of 2019, I was in Atlanta for David Neagle’s live event, The Art of Success Summit. I was still working on my EZPC Building blog at the time, but I’ve been getting thoughts about putting this blog behind me and pursuing a new project. I didn’t know what yet, but I spent a lot of time in Atlanta thinking about it. Throughout the time I've been working on my blog, I was teaching myself new skills on the side like social media ads and SEO. I didn’t tip my toes into copywriting until I came across a website called Kopywriting Kourse while I was surfing the web while I s... (read more)

144. A World With Untrustworthy Doctors
June 24, 2020

I was doing my daily journal entry yesterday. One thought led to another and this question popped into my mind. Can we trust our doctors? It’s a very random thought, but a potentially scary one too. Imagine what our lives would be like if we can’t even rely on doctors to help us when something goes wrong with our bodies. So I decided to look that question up to see what other people think of it. I’ve seen some interesting answers. What shocked me the most was an article explaining why you shouldn’t trust a doctor, written by a doctor himself. While it was an interestin... (read more)

145. Here's a Corny Joke For You
June 23, 2020

What did the cyberbird say when it flew over Fiverr? Cheap. Cheap. Cheap. Don’t laugh too hard now, it’s true. You can find so many different kinds of services there, and a lot of the services that are normally expensive are priced as low as $5. While that sounds pretty nice, it doesn’t mean you should jump on those services and outsource everything to low cost Fiverr freelancers. There’s a saying that goes like this: “Cheap is the new expensive.” Let me give you an example of what that means. Many years ago, I wanted to buy a new mouse for my ... (read more)

146. What Gets People Hooked On This Scripted Show
June 22, 2020

I talk a lot about why entertainment is a great tool when selling. And if you’re still not convinced, here’s one more reason that proves it. When I was around seven years old, one of my old classmates introduced me to WWE. At the time, being a person seeing that type of entertainment for the first time, I was glued to the show. There was a lot of trash-talking, fighting, cool dramatic entrances, and audience chanting. It was mesmerizing. Later on, one of my friends told me that everything you see in WWE is scripted. It’s all fake. My heart broke a little bit when ... (read more)

147. One Reason Why This Gym Is So Successful
June 20, 2020

I really miss my gym and all the fit, muscular people that I see there. What’s the gym I go to, you wonder? One of the most convenient gyms around. Planet Fitness. It’s inexpensive, it’s relatively close to my house, my friend recommended it. They’re simply one of the best gyms around. My first day of exercising there was not that bad of an experience. Partially it’s because I’ve had a weight training class back in high school, but it’s something about the brand that makes me feel comfortable. The company’s slogan is written everywhere. “The Judgement Free Zo... (read more)

148. The Success Behind My Short-lived Resume Writing Service
June 17, 2020

Before I got into copywriting, I actually ran a resume and cover letter writing service for roughly one month on my school campus. Because I interned at the nonprofit organization and worked closely with the Executive Director, who has a lot of experience with resume critiques, I picked up a lot of his tips and tricks. And I thought, “Why not put them to good use?” So I spent a day writing up the ad, printed them, and posted them on every bulletin board I found. Long story short. In one month, the ad pulled in two to three leads per week, and I ended up working with th... (read more)

149. The Story Of My Three Week Old Desire to Be An Improv Performer
June 15, 2020

In summer of 2019, one of my oldest friends and I went on a weekend trip to Chicago. It was pretty interesting considering it was our first time planning a long distance trip together. Although parts of the trip didn’t go as planned, we still had some pretty good experiences. Seeing the beautiful city skyline. Eating their famous deep dish pizza. Visiting their museums. And watching their local improv comedy shows. Fun fact: It was my very first time attending improv comedy shows, and we went to two shows. When I sat through the first one, I was amazed to say the ... (read more)

150. How to Write Copy That's Harder to Kill Than Lord Voldemort
June 14, 2020

As children, you were probably taught the importance of recycling, and how it can help our fellow planet Earth. If you haven’t, you should probably take a few minutes to look it up. Anyways, it’s a beautiful concept. You’re basically making something new out of something that already exists. And there are so many ways to recycle. Some ways are more clever than others. For examples: My brother uses old school textbooks and the thick SAT study guides to uplift for his computer monitor. I think they’ve been put to good use. My mom used a Tostitos salsa dip jar as a vase to gro... (read more)
