Once upon a time, I used to be a slow writer. |
It was one of my worst weaknesses. Because of that, I would always get stuck writing essays in school because I would have trouble thinking of what to write. The only way I got myself to start writing was to put off the assignments until the last minute.
I mean it worked, but the quality always turned out terrible, thus getting mediocre grades. I lived with this problem for a long time, and it affects me when I practice copywriting too.
But that all changed when I read the copywriting book written by one of the greatest living copywriters, Joseph Sugarman, called:
The Adweek Copywriting Handbook
He included many tips on how to write copy better and faster.
When I implemented his tips, I went from finishing an email in a few hours down to one hour, sometimes even 25 minutes.
Here’s the method I use to help me write my emails faster than better:
1. Put up some music I usually like to listen to piano music. But sometimes when I'm in the mood for it, I like to listen to meditation music too.
2. Set up a timer I use the Pomodoro time management technique. Meaning, breaking down your work time into 25 minute time blocks with five minute breaks in-between.
3. Start implementing Joseph Sugarman's writing method found in page 203.
This doesn't just apply to writing emails too. It applies to any kind of writing-related work you do like:
• Social media content • Articles • Blog posts • Video scripts • Books • Newsletters
