Dates are hard enough--asking someone out can be a terrifying thing--but they can be extremely rewarding, especially if you meet that next special person. So, when thinking of asking that interesting person out to dinner, think again. Washington, D.C. has so many romantic spots--why not pick something a little more interesting than a simple dinner and drinks? Here are some of our favorite options for a special date and a night that you won’t easily forget. Phillips After 5 Philips After 5 is a special event that happens at the Philips Collection every first Thursday of the month that includes the beautiful art available at the museum, live entertainment, and yummy snacks and drinks. Usually there is a theme to the night, sometimes even featuring popular food trucks around the area. This special date night requires reservations (far in advance) unless you are a member of the collection. La Tasca Cooking Classes There’s a wonderful tapas restaurant called La Tasca that offers really fun cooking classes. You’ll have a blast making something with your date, drinking sangria, and eating the night away. These classes fill up really fast however, so you’ll want to book your date in advance. Homestead Farm Another great option if you need some fresh ingredients for something you’re making later, or you just like the idea of picking fresh berries and fruit for the day, take your date to Homestead Farm. After picking through some of the best and freshest fruit money can buy, continue on to the market on site, where you can buy more fresh fruit and veggies. During the fall, they also offer hayrides, pumpkin patches, and hot apple cider if you are still feeling like romantic dates in Washington, D.C. in the fall. National Arboretum The National Arboretum is the United States arboretum and is administered by the US Department of Agriculture. Located in the Northeast of Washington, D.C., there are 446 acres of beautiful gardens, trees and plants. Open every day for free, wander around and see the beautiful plants, fly a kite, and even take a picnic for something a little more romantic. National Zoo The National Zoo is one of the U.S.’s favorite zoos. Known for housing some of the U.S.’s only pandas, Tian Tian, Mei Xiang, Bao Bao, and Bei Bei, it’s truly worth a visit just to see the adorable pandas and their new cub, Bei Bei. There are also lots of other animals that are available to visit at the best zoological park in the world, and because it is free, it’s a shame to miss it while you're in Washington, D.C. If your date happens to love animals, this seems like the perfect date for a warm Saturday. Roosevelt Island Roosevelt Island is a fun hidden gem in the middle of the Potomac and celebrates Theodore Roosevelt. With a large statue of him, 86 acres of beautiful landscape, and the largest memorial for any president, it’s a sight to see if you haven’t already. Though there are no cars or bicycles permitted, there are great trails throughout the island, commemorating our twenty-sixth president’s love of the outdoors and conservatism. Canoeing at Burke Lake Park Lastly, if you’d rather explore the outdoors with your date, there is Burke Lake Park. Burke Lake Park is located southwest of the capitol, but is a beautiful area for fishing, relaxing and rowing about the lake. The lake is stocked with lots of different types of fish, and you can rent a boat for a little less than $20 dollars a day, and about half for a half day. If you are itching for the outdoors, look no further than canoeing at Burke Lake Park for romantic dates in Washington, D.C.
