Washington, D.C., is a marvelous city, full of many wonderful restaurants, museums, history, and shopping. With so much to offer in a city, there are naturally many places to visit for a romantic evening out with that special someone. Here are just a few of the best options for romantic dates in Washington, D.C. National Mall The National Mall is one of the favorite spots in the middle of Washington and is a great spot for a romantic date. Bring a picnic or just a blanket and find a great spot to view the reflecting pool and the Lincoln Memorial. Watch the sunset and spend a beautiful evening with your significant other relaxing in the beauty of nature and architecture. John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts The John F. Kennedy Center is the nation’s busiest performing arts center, and hosts over 3,000 events each year. With many different options, including the theater, national symphony orchestra, millennium stage (which is free!), the ballet, jazz, contemporary dance, chamber music, festivals, Washington National Opera, and performances for young audiences, there’s always something to do at the Kennedy Center. National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden The National Sculpture Garden is a wonderful area near the Smithsonian that celebrates sculpture art in the outdoors. Take a stroll through the garden following a small meal at the Pavilion Café or even come for Jazz in the Garden which features free jazz concerts every Friday evening. For wonderful music and beautiful art, it seems there can’t be a better night out for free! C&O Canal in Georgetown For a little bit of a trip outside the central area of Washington, D.C., visit Georgetown and walk along the C&O canal for a little bit of fresh air and a beautiful stroll. With boat rides available and a wide path available for bikers and joggers, and with 184.5 miles of canal to walk along, you won’t get easily bored. Try for a brunch at one of the many restaurants in Georgetown and then a walk along the canal for a perfect Saturday morning. Rock Creek Park Rock Creek Park is a beautiful section in the northern section of D.C. that provides miles of hikes and trails for those who need a bit of fresh air on the weekend. With beautiful trees and animals, find yourself lost in the park for an hour or two with someone you love. If you plan on staying for a while, consider bringing a picnic to enjoy nature a little longer. National Arboretum The National Arboretum is a beautiful area in the northeast section of Washington, D.C., and is a living museum of trees, shrubs, and plants. This living museum is especially beautiful during the annual garden fair, bonsai festival, and orchid show, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly. Dumbarton Oaks Dumbarton Oaks was bought in 1920 by Mildred and Robert Woods Bliss, both of whom worked tirelessly to create a home where their art collections could be shown and their gardens could be beautified. Now, Dumbarton Oaks is a library and collection administered by Harvard University Trustees. With beautiful and historic gardens, designed by Beatrix Farrand, the home is a beautiful reminder of all that is good in the humanities. Be sure to stroll the gardens and visit the world class collections of art and music. Hillwood Estate The Hillwood Estate began with its purchase by Marjorie Merriweather Post who collected Russian imperial art and French decorative art. As the only child of the Mr. and Mrs. Post, the founders of the Post cereal empire, she worked to become one of America’s most successful businesswomen. She created 25 acres of serene gardens for everyone to enjoy, so be sure to visit Hillwood for its beautiful museum and the acres of gardens available for exploring for one of the most romantic dates in Washington, D.C.
